I have a 1993 Hatchback Camaro with 6.5 inch speakers.

I have a $500 limit.
I already have a good deck, but nothing else.

I blew out all my speakers in my car, the ones I bought at Wal-mart for 20 bucks a pair. So anything will sound better quality wise than it does now.

Should I spend the majority of my money on speakers to enhance the car audio? or should I consider buying an amp, spending the majority of my money on that? I'm not sure what amps have with the effect of audio when it's played loud because i've never had one.

Also, I have 3 speakers (out of 5) that are wired. Two rear seat speakers haven't been wired yet. Is it worth paying the audio place to have those wired and buy a second pair of speakers? Or do you think just having two in the front will be loud enough, and the difference wont be noticeable?

Thanks for taking the time for reading this, i've thought about getting my car audio revamped for a long time. It really needs it.

Well, if your speakers weren't so horribly cheap I'd say go with an amp. But, you practically don't have any speakers so you're going to need them first.

I would suggest Boston for best for the money. Also, 4 speakers will make a world of difference, especially if you're relying on the front ones only. The front door speaker locations in the Camaro are absolutely horrible. If you install rear ones in the pillars, it will make an absolute crazy difference in sound.

My suggestion - buy 2 pair of Boston 6.5's and wire up the rears.

You'll have about $250 left over and can also buy:

1. A decent 4-channel amp to further improve the 6.5's sound

or

2. A 2-ch or mono amp, a woofer and a box.

I'd go with #2 along with the 6'5.s. That will get you a nice system with adequate bass.
