Car Audio Amplifier question?

Hey, i put in a sub and amp. amp is mtx or something like that. but the car previously had a amp and sub so all the wires were there. after driving for a couple of hours i notice my amplifier is burning hot. i asked my friend and he said that his amp doesn't do that. so i was wondering if this is normal or what could be the problem. could the wires already installed not be a low enouph gauge? the power wire is pretty thick but i dont know if its what the manual requires. it says gauge 4. i dont know if the wire is gauge 4. should the amp get that hot?

It shouldn't be running as hot as you are making it seem. The amp is supposed to be in a ventilated area, instead of under a seat or something. The wire says gauge 4 or the amp says gauge 4? You can test the gauge of the wire with some wire cutters. All of your other wires wouldn't have an impact on the heat of the amp. MTX isn't very good, but they are a hardy amp. If the amp burns you when you touch, there might be something majorly wrong.
