Sorry, my computer at work isn't letting me use an Office programs right now, so I cannot open the Excel file from the Census Bureau that has a lot of the stats I used. However, as soon as my Office programs start working, I will make sure I shwo every single mathematical step that I used so that Zachvac is happy. But until then, I am getting back to PNAC and Sinjin about the US/Mexican border:
Background stats
- In a single day, 4000 illegal aliens make their way into the US from Mexico
- In a single year, nearly 3,000,000 illegal aliens make their way into the US from Mexico...this is the equivalent of 60 full flights on a Boeing 737 every day for a year!!
- When they reach the US, stolen cars are waiting for them...that is why Arizona has the highest car theft rate per capita (56,000 stolen cars each year)
- Each year, approximately 60,000 people other than Mexicans are apprehended trying to cross the border (some from Iran, Egypt, Afghanistan, etc)
- These illegals receive government-funded health care, education benefits, and subsidized housing
- The money sent back to Mexico from the illegals working here approaches $15 billion a year, which is 1/3 of Mexico's economy, and lost money for our economy
Now for some interesting info. This problem has mainly been escalated by Vicente Fox, who is encouraging the migration. When the US opposed his free flow of people between the countries, he took a back door approach and encouraged people to go anyway. But to some personal stories, take the hard working John Ladd Jr, owner of a 14,000 acre ranch passed down to him by his mother's family. He is forced to work several weeks a year repairing the damage done to his property by the swarms of illegals. He said 200 to 300 illegals pass through his property each night. "They punch holes in the bar-wires fence and then tear up the many fences intended to separate the breeding cattlethat divide the land" Ladd says. Now why should this hard-working man have to spend weeks of his time each year to repair his property that it torn apart by illegals?
Here is another story about Jim Dickson, a hospital administrator in Bisbee, a small town in Arizona near the Mexican border. He figures he has another 3 years until he will be forced to shut down his hospital. "We used to have 250 emergency-room visits a month. Now it's 500." Many of these are illegals who suffered dehydration, heart attacks, or car accident victims who were crammed in a car with 30 other ilegals. This year, Copper Queen Community Hospital will spend $450,000 of its money on illegals, bringing its total for the past few years to $1.4 million. Dickson was forced to shut down the long-term health care unit because he said, "The more free car we give, the more we have to ration what's left." Not only are these illegals breaking the law, stealing jobs, and using taxpayers dollars, but they are also jeopardizing the lives of the elderly by shutting down many of their local facilites.
Sheriff Dever, local law enforcer in Arizona, expressed other effects of illegals on his community. "Our methamphetamine problem is alarming. The last three homicides here were related to meth. KiRAB doing meth will take a load of UDAs to Tucson or Phoenix for a couple of hundred dollars." He also says that more than 25% of his budget is spent on illegal-immigration activites. "The illegal aliens can't make bond, so they spend more time in jail. They're indigent, so they get a public defender. If they have health problems, they have to be treated."
Now dealing with the criminals who try to come into the US. From October 1, 2003 to July 20, 2004, 9051 people were arrested crossing into the country illegally who had US criminal recorRAB, meaning they committed crimes here, were sent back to Mexico, and and were trying to re-enter the US illegally. Among these, 378 had active warrants for their arrest. In one week, there were 2 with outstanding warrants for homicide. And these are just the ones who were caught; many more have probably passed through the border.
Two known terrorists, Ahmad Ajaj and Ramzi Yousef entered the US illegally in 1991 and 1992 and sought asylum. Ajaj left the US in 1992 because he was convicted of passport fraud. Yousef applied for asylum. In 1993, the two helped commit the WTC attacks and were later convicted. Yousef's asylum application was still pending.
I think that we should close the border 100% to illegals. However, we should encourage people to legally come to the US, like Europeans are forced to do, by filling out the paperwork to get a green card or a visa. I have no problem with that. What I do have a problem with is illegals coming over, destroying property, committing crimes, using taxpayers' dollars, and not paying a dime for any of it. It is a privilege to live in the US; it's not a right. If I was John Ladd Jr and I saw illegals destroying my property every night, I would either buy about 20 dogs and train them to eat the Mexicans, or I would sit on top of my roof and mow down anyone I saw in my yard.
