If Obama and the Democrat party are not socialist. If the Democrat party line is not based on European Socialism. Then what the heck is socialism?

I have read Marx and Engels. The Democrats parrot that ideology almost verbatim.

Please enlighten me. What is Socialism?

all left wing politics is based on Marxism. you cant be a left winger and not be a marxist.
 
You can't possibly have read Marx and Engel's on the one hand and claim "European socialism" or the democratic party parrot them and expect to be taken seriously. Marx and Engels didn't invent socialism. Not one country in Europe practices a pure socialism. That would be where workers have direct ownership and administration of the means of production.

Socialism is a system of government that supports the constituents of that system.

Capitalism supports every person for themselves.

Neither system is perfect both systems have good and bad points the trick is to blend them into a workable democracy so everyone in that society has food shelter and education and the chance to advance themselves.

Do you think it is fair and just that 1% of the worlds population controls 90% of the worlds wealth ?

Do you think that people should be left to starve to death because they were unlucky enough to be born into poor families ?

Socialism allows people to rise above the manner of their birth and achieve a useful position in life.

Do you really object to that ?
 
Once upon a time, there was a good hearted teacher who truly cared about his students' success. But he was troubled because one half of his class was failing while the other half was getting an A.

So he decided to do an experiment. He took one grade away from the A students and gave it to the failing students to bring them up to a D.

After a few weeks, he noticed that not only are the failing students back down to an F, but the B students have dropped to C+ students.

So he tried his experiment again. The C+ students were now C students and the failing students were brought back up to a D.

After another few weeks, he was devastated to learn that every single student in his class was failing.

So he pulled his most brightest student aside and said to him "What happened to you? You were always my best student. You always completed your homework and got perfect scores on your tests. What went wrong?"

The student replied "Why should I spend hours after school doing your homework assignments and studying when I'm only gonna get punished for it while the lazy students who watch MTV and play their video games will get rewarded?".

The sad part is Conservatives didn't used to be hate-filled, ignorant extremists - Fox TV and AM radio made them that way and I saw it happen with my own eyes the last 20 years.
