Can we hook up BEV receiver at the campsite/cottage?

While I agree with you 200% that it is a complete waste of time, the intent is to track down people that share a subscription 2-3-4 ways. It is a valid goal, but a drop in the bucket compared to FTA and other pirate methods and as you say usually does little more than piss off legit people.

I feel this falls into one of those categories that "sound good on paper" but in reality backfire on the company. Much like some of the internet "take down" notices that have received bad press lately. I think companies are starting to realize that "any publicity is not necessarily good publicity" contrary to the past.

Yes, two accounts. That's the law. Even folks who think they can buy one copy of a piece of software and install it on three computers "legally" at least go for the excuse that: "It's only being used on one computer at a time". Kids watching TV in Edmonton and Dad and Mom out on the range at Red Deer -- both watching TV using the same account -- that's two addresses. And that breaks the law. Disney and Astral and CNN and Newsworld all get paid PER household. You are proposing giving these content producers a 50% cut in pay to make TV more affordable to you.

The proper response is: leave the account at home with the kids and Mom and Dad can watch FTA -- or set an example for their family about ethics and fair dealing and pay for a second dish and second account.

click on the calculator for your dish type.

the cable from outside connects to an OTA antenna amplifier which then connects to your TV and/or splits out to another connection in a bedroom for example - if you turn "ON" the amplified antenna it will/may interfere with the cable feed and won't let a Sat signal pass thru off or on.

Agent Express V - my point was that what you can do and what you are allowed to do are 2 different things. I'm basing this assumption on the fact I've only had 2 calls in 5 years to verify my location ID. The odds on someone getting "caught" on a 2-day weekend and EV cutting off service are as close to zero as you can get. Any reasonable person would make the asusmption EV would try for a week (at least) before taking any action.

I'm not condoning the action, just pointing out that certain things are possible - even if they violate your agreement.

We know the party line, we know the "contract", but reality is a different story. Technically, moving one of my units out on the patio (it is not in my residence and the phone line is not connected) is also not allowed. Am I worried about being "caught"? Not in the least. Same applies if I take one to a friends house to see if there dish is in alignment or help troubleshoot other issues.

I was told by the (whatever) department that called that it does indeed matter if the unit called out recently or not. I was explicitly told that the ONLY reason I received a call was because one of the receivers was not connected to a phone line. It was, but the plug came lose when I moved some equipment around (I use a splitter to daisy chain the phone line to multiple receivers and on the 5900s the release button hits on the shelf and dislodges easily - putting 2 phone connectors on the back of the IRD would be a better option :) )

Not to be nit-picky, but technically, over the phone it is impossible to verify the actual physical location of the unit. The location identifier can be provided without being physically located at the same location.

I never signed anything with EV, until a couple of months ago when I signed the rental agreement on my 9200. All my friends and family who purchased at or around the same time as myself never signed anything either.

They would still come after you for the money LOL. Best case you would be charged the cancelation penalty, but I'm sure they'd throw in some other charges just for fun :)

Where are you located? I have a couple dishes taking up space in the garage that I'd like to part with (for far less than BEV wants).
pm me if interested.

That may very well be but hopefully, they will prevail. The difference is that if they do stop the practice, it will only be necessary for you to get your own second dish vs. SC shipping you a free one by courier. Unlike Bell, SC does not hassle its customers by calling them and asking for Location IDs.

Barter to make sure you get a faster connection, and an agent who knows what you are talking about you may call our SAT (Service assurane team) at 1-866-395-9994.

Dosborne of course you signed something...the service agreement is signed on the original installation, or in store if you self installed

Bell is getting realy serious about that issue and more and more calls will be performed to verify...of course we could verify the location of the receiver on the phone! Since we know that clients are likely to go out to the cottage on week end more and more calls are gonna be performed on the week ands and Saturday. Also CRTC is asking satellite compagnies to do a certain number of verification per month (or is per year)

hi all

i have bell at my home, and, just finished adding a dish to my cottage

i am now going to add a receiver for use there and add it to my account. my question....i know i need to initialise or "hit" the receiver to make it work. and, i know i should have done that from home. but, since i am at my cottage now, and have a 3100 a friend gave me, can i initialise it at my cottage? (i know i cant hook it up to the phone line as mentioned in a previous post, and that i should technically set up a seperate account for my cottage...but i just use it to watch the news or sports, and on rainy days!) its hunting season and i'd love to watch some hockey!

anyway, i dont want to do anything to get myself in trouble, but it would be convenient to do this while i am _at_ my cottage!

cheers

the dude (who is enjoying the hunting season very much!)

My friend, you should bring a larger dish with you during the vacation. A large dish can battle rain fade since winter is almost here. :p

Not true. The CRTC doesn't force Bell to arbitrarily cancel service to paying customers of equipment it has lost track of. Get real. If Customer X bought 4 receivers and added programming for them and pays the bill every month, just because Bell is "uncertain" the equipment is turned on or off is no reason -- and there is certainly no CRTC regulation to invoke this -- to cancel service.

What about going after NON-paying addresses with Bell dishes on the roof?

Believe it or not, one time on Ebay I saw a gimbal-mounted military grade satellite tracker that would keep your dish locked on to the satellite while tooling around in your car or boat or whatever. The minimum bid was around $10,000-$12,000 if I recall correctly.

I never blamed the CRTC for that fact that BEV is porhibitted in the US...if you read my post it gives you BEV position on that question. We have no broadcasting rights in the US. This is mentionned on your Express Vu contract so you can not say that Bell comes around and changes the rules

I agree, take your receiver, enjoy it if it rains.

I am taking mine North this weekend and I work for these bozo's, sod them, mo one is home to watch my 9200 etc so I see nothing wrong with what I am doing.

Why don't you read what he said AEV?:p
AEV said:After the third time they speak to you they will place an order to get all your receivers but 2 disconnected. And at that point only a positive verifiation of the receivers could get them reactivated.

Nimiq 1 said:Why would they disconnect my receivers if they speak to me.?

Look AEV whenever they speak to Nimiq 1, he can provide all the location id's, because when he is home and all of his receivers are home!!! What the hell are talking about, he never has to make up excuses why he can't provide it.

Having a dish on the roof (or anywhere else) is not an implication of any wrong doing. Remember, Bell encourages you to leave your dish behind if you move.

Such company drivel, do you ever get tired to defend the idiotic? Yup the police in the U.S. of A are going to arrest me for watching the Blue Bombers and the Hamilton Ti Cats play 3 down Canadian football, or even more bizarre watching the Leafs win the Stanley Cup while holidaying in the U.S. of A. Nooot, give it up Agent Express V.
