Can we hook up BEV receiver at the campsite/cottage?

The advertisements were in newspapers ( I have a scanned copy) they were promoting that Westjet had Bell expressVu available on their flights and they do fly south over the border.
I believe Dish and or Direct have a waver for RV users to sign that allows them to be mobile. It "proves" to Direct and Dish that the users have a permanent address "somewhere".

The seizure that you mentioned is obviously illegal as these were Canadian residents receiving their subscription services from the US. Same as a perminant resident of the US subscribing to Bell.
These circumstances are NOT the same as residents of one country receiveing their subscription (legaly paid for) while traveling and thank g-d that we are still able to travel freely from one country to another with our motorhomes (spending tourist dollars in each country).
Thanks for your replies but I srill think that you don't see the big picture. We are customers and consumers and will go to a source of satisfaction and not be restricted by beaurocratic rules.

Hmmm. That is official policy but one of the biggest authorized online dealers for Bell openly ships to the US and will also help with activation or provide a broker service. And Bell is fully aware of this.

In all fairness, the comparison between EV and cable is a valid one. You would not expect service at more than one location with cable. Although this is mainly due to a lack of infrastructure. If every "cottage" was wired and you just needed to bring along your digial box then that could be another story.

However, if *C promotes a portable service, then indeed EV's position is not a selling point.
 
Just buy a second dish and LNB from a dealer or off eBay. Going price is about $120 from a dealer, less from Ebay. A 20" upgrade for a 18" will work as well if you want to buy from EV and have an 18" dish.

Just make sure that the receiver is not plugged into the phone line at the cottage. You will also need to take the receiver home and plug it into the "home" phone line every few months in order to avoid account verification calls. Switching receivers between home and cottage occasionally would work.

BTW, the CRTC does not care about people with receivers at home and the cottage. EV does not officially allow this but *C does. The broadcasters have complained that it causes lost revenue and cable companies have complained about unfair competition (since they do not do this.) It is really up to the BDU and the broadcasters to reach an agreement on what is allowed. It looks like the broadcasters overlooked this possibility originally and now want to force BDUs to reverse their policies on the issue. EV agreed but *C did not. Think of it like a software agreement. Some companies allow you to install software (receivers to view programming) on more than one computer (residence) as long as it is for personal use (your personal residence.) Others do not. It's strictly a matter of agreement between the software supplier (broadcaster, BDU) and the consumer.
 
You all just need to buy a Slingbox (hook this up to your receiver at home) and then just bring your laptop with you and hook it up to a TV to watch from a remote location (soon, Slingmedia will come out with their Slingcatcher, will remove the need for a computer period).

Not really any point in berating Agent Express V over this. He's simply stating what BEV's policy is. I don't believe he's even stated his personal opinion on the matter.

I think he's made it pretty clear what BEV policy is and what they will do if they find out AND why their policy is what it is. That being said, a couple of other people have already made the point that the chances of you being caught are probably pretty slim.
 
If he is not at home, how will they get hold of him. Are they going to call him at his cottage phone number, does he even have a landline at the cottage.

They can call his home number all they want, he's not home it does not matter. Even if they could contact him at his cottage, he just has to say his receivers are at home, they have no way of telling where they are to.

And why does it matter, he is paying for his programing he is not account splitting.

2 options:

A) You have ALL RECEIVERS on the SAME ACCOUNT...
but you have to call us when you leaving, and we
will DEACTIVATE a receivers that are staying home.
Both locations can not be active at the same time

B) Have two separate account...pay two bills
And you can put the R-V account on temporary
programg suspension during winter
 
As far as I am concerned, I pay for my service for my family and I will use it wherever I want. If I am camping, I take my receiver with me. I know that BEV is just following the rules set out by the CRTC, but these types of rules are exactly why people end up using grey market satellites. If they keep pushing issues like this, all it will do is hurt Canadian satellite companies. The only reason that this rule exists is to protect cable companies who cannot provide a portable service. Sorry, but those are one of the benefits of satellite and the cable companies should just suck it up and accept it as an advantage of satellite. Cable has advantages that satellite does not and satellite companies have to just deal with it. This is a perfect example of why I will NEVER go back to a cable company again ... they want their monopoly at the expense of their customers.

If you want to take satellite service with you when you go camping, just switch to Star Choice.

They'll be happy to get everything setup for you.

The dish seems to be harder to align, but you don't have to worry about being disconnected or having to pay reconnection/early termination fees!
 
It is not illegal to have satellite TV at the cottage and home with your one account. Expressvu and Starchoice both allow this.
The only thing that is illegal is if Expressvu and or or Starchoice do not pay the broadcasters something like $1.40 month for the extra address on the account.
So do whatever you like it not a crime. The worse thing that can happen is you change providers.
 
There was a policy change in September of 2004. I have a copy (9 page PDF document - showing changes).
Please don't tell me what has happend in the past (2001) when I was there and made those aggrements with the Bell representative who "signed" me up and took my money. Now they have changed their policies to make more money and irritate paying customers.
 
To me, I think that the Satellite companies lobbied for this so that they have a way to gain more money. Don't you think? Why would the crtc just all of a sudden come up with this one.
 
It's only a problem if you have multiple receivers 4-5-6. Then will call for the Location ID to make sure they are all in the same house
 
Yes , they change the ID location while you are on the phone , but then you don't have to answer the phone , I know people who have been doing it for years, yet I get the call from BEV every year.
 
If they put as much effort into eradicating satellite piracy as they do verifying legitimate receivers of paying customers, there wouldn't be an issue of satellite piracy nor would there be as many unhappy customers with Bell.



Not "satellite compagnies", only Bell.
 
Apparently this is the actual fine amount in the US, they are stricter than us...
If you get cut with Dish or Direct TV here, they will only take the dish and receiver away with maybe a minor fine...

Plus you get you account closed if BEV finds out if it's you only receiver (with reconnection fee and early termination if you are on a contract) or they turned off that receiver until they could verify that it's in Canada
