i bought some potted roses from walmart and was wondering if they would live indoors for the winter until next spring how would i plant them and what would i need just plain potting soil and water and maybe a little fertlizer to keep them blooming.

If you have them in a pot you can store them in your garage this way they are protected from the cold..I wouldn't suggest that you put them in the house as they will get confused on when to go dorm.

I've done it several times, but it doesn't always work. I keep them in the garage because they've got to have the cooler temperatures to go dormant. You will need to water them, but only about once a month through the winter, and only water when the soil is mostly dry; you don't want to keep their roots soaked. I put them in regular potting soil, but I don't fertilize them. Since they will be dormant, they won't "drink" as much water, and the fertilizer will simply sit and burn the root system. Keep them near a window because they will still need the sunlight. In the spring, leave them out in the sunshine for only a few minutes at a time until they become accustomed to the direct light; give them about a week or so to get used to it before planting them in the ground.

Hope this helps, and best of luck to you!
