I've done it several times, but it doesn't always work. I keep them in the garage because they've got to have the cooler temperatures to go dormant. You will need to water them, but only about once a month through the winter, and only water when the soil is mostly dry; you don't want to keep their roots soaked. I put them in regular potting soil, but I don't fertilize them. Since they will be dormant, they won't "drink" as much water, and the fertilizer will simply sit and burn the root system. Keep them near a window because they will still need the sunlight. In the spring, leave them out in the sunshine for only a few minutes at a time until they become accustomed to the direct light; give them about a week or so to get used to it before planting them in the ground.
Hope this helps, and best of luck to you!
