Hi Yahoo! Answers committee! Please advise!!
I came home from work and my mother tells me she was at Wal-mart two hours ago just to buy some ketchup and some q-tips, but she said she felt frightened, threatened and humiliated by an African American employee. We are Asian, Korean in fact. First, when she got to Wal-mart with my 10 year old sister, she had a lot of coins in her purse so she used coin star to turn them into bills. The ticket only came out to be a dollar and some cents. Then, she picked out what she came to buy and got in lane #8. The scanner wouldn't scan the coin star voucher so they cashier sent my mother and my sister to a register in the liquor section. So she waited in line and when it was her turn, the cashier try to scan the voucher, but again, it did not work. So the liquor cashier called over another employee to try it. The employee that came over tried and it didn't work. So this employee that came over, the African American employee that yelled at my mother, told my mother to go to lane 8. Well my mother just came from lane 8. So she tried to tell the employee that that's where she came from, that she came here because of what the cashier at lane 8 said and asked where can she go? Then, the African American employee started yelling at and talking down on her because she didn't speak english very well and thought she was a some poor homeless with a dollar something voucher. My mother said she started panicking when the employee yelled at her and called my 10 year old sister to talk to the employee. The employee continued yelling at my mom and my 10 year old sister to go to lane 8. Not knowing what to do she got back into lane 8 which by now had a long line since only few lanes were open at the time. she waited until it was her turn, and the cashier at lane 8 didn't even try the second time and just told her to go somewhere else. So mother went to a different lane and at that lane, the cashier brought a supervisor over because it was not working there as well. The supervisor said this was a technical problem. So she failed the cash the voucher.
My mother was traumatized by the black employee who yelled at her. She never felt so frightened and threatened since living in America for 13 years. She said she felt racially discriminated and even more so because her english was weak. She also said that it seemed like the black wal-mart employee was looking at her like some poor homeless because of the dollar and some cent voucher. My mother cried while telling me what happened. She was angry at the same time since my 10 year old sister was right there to witness everything. Now I'm pissed off because my mother was treated this way by a wal-mart employee.
Is this a civil lawsuit? Can this make a case? Please help. Any advice is appreciated.
Thank you!!!
