Can my culture be "average American" or simply "American"?

I have to write a college paper about my culture,however I can only say that my culture is simply that of an average American. Nothing of my ancestors from other countries has carried over into my current family. I know the definition of culture, which this "average American" seems to fall under. Do you think this is acceptable?
Ahhh thank you Boomer I feel like I can get started without worrying now. Also, thank you Simpsons for all of the ideas on what to write about I had no idea each family was creating their own personal culture.

Culture is defined as: a particular society at a particular time and place;
And considering nothing from my ancestors culture has been passed on to my own I don't see how I could write a paper on how it is my own culture. However, that is why Im asking because Im not completely sure.

I can see how "American" would be too broad and why I would have to narrow it down.
 
there are several "average" american cultures

think of your region, texas, the south, new york, midwest, california, alaska, all have unique cultures of their own due to different lifestyles, which derive from environment, upper, middle and lower class have their own culture as well.

Try to incorporate that as well.
 
You were born here. You are a native American by definition. All native Americans have ancestors who came from some other continent.

DNA, genealogy, culture, heritage, citizenship, and loyalty are all quite different concepts. Your statements suggest that you are a mix of many different heritages and cultures that have combined to create a unique and exceptional culture. On this, you are correct, and you are not alone.

Have a blast and try to keep it politically correct, somehow.
 
Well an average American and no ancestors from other countries? Sounds like you have a more interesting story then you think. How were you raised? What were some of the rules in your house? Were you raised in a strict environment? What are considered manners? How were you disciplined act. there is no average American. Don't think that everyone lived that same lifestyle as you did. Think about the kids in the ghettos. (yea i do know) What are the expectations compared to yours, the manners, how is school looked at, the environment, the value of music and arts, ect.

p.s. America is based off of people from all over the world. So there really is no average American lifestyle. Think outside the box and try to think of the way you were raised and you have lived your whole life. Good luck!
