That rating is not really telling u anything but how high the subs can get for like a second at peak power....U wanna know the RMS Watts..if the RMS is like 400 then that means that both subs RMS at 400 would be 800 RMS together....No u don't really need an amp that big.. For instance i have 4 subs hooked to a 2000 watt mono block amp.....the RMS Watts on my subs are all 450...so 450x4= 1800 RMS Watts which is continous bass and the peak power is over 2000..my amp is 2000 so everything matches up well.....You only really need about a 1000 watt amp but it depends on the RMS Watts of your subs...If those are the Sony 1200 dont get them because i had 2 of those with my 2 audio bahns and blew one of them....replaced those 2 with q-power and now i'm str8........
