can i change name on a train ticket?

two days ago, my bf booked 2 train tickets, for his brother and sister.. it turns out his sister cant go now, as a lot of crap has happened.. the brother is still going and his friend wants to take the place of the sister... EXCEPT.. the friend is a guy and wont pass for the sister.. can the name be changed or would he still get on the train? :/
