Can a male file a gender discrimination lawsuit? Do I have one?

Back story here, I'll try to keep it brief.

I got a job as a medical assistant at a doctor's office while I was in college. I had a (female) friend who worked there and they needed someone reliable to help out a few hours each week.. finding charts, calling insurance companies, etc. When I was hired I was told they didn't want me dealing directly with patients because I wasn't female and it is a female-oriented office. I was fine with this, I wasn't expecting to work there very long. Well, it hasn't worked out that way and I'm still working at the office almost a decade later.

Since then they've hired a few people for full time jobs answering phones and I've never been offered a job doing it. Anytime I say "hey, I'll answer phones" everyone laughs. I'm basically limited to part time work because of this. I've also had discussions with people who no longer work there and they were being paid 2 to 3 dollars an hour more than I am, despite the fact I've worked the job significantly longer. Furthermore, if I decided to quit it might be hard for me to find a similar job, as I have very little experience dealing directly with patients. I didn't mind at first, I understood why they didn't want me working with patients, but I'm starting to need more hours and they seem to be getting cut more and more. I've never once been written up or disciplined in any way.

I'm not a "sue person", but I feel like I'm being treated unfairly. So, I'd like opinions on this.
