Can a car antenna go bad?

I have been having a problem with my car radio. It isn't anything fancy and I had it put in new 6 years ago when I bought my used car. My radio fades in/out, every station has a lot of static on it, but the CD works fine. I have even taken my antenna ornament off of it. Could that be the problem?
 
you can look to see if the antenna is connected to the radio it may have come un plugged.
