C & C The Simpsons " He Loves to Fly and he D'ohs" ( 9/23/07)

Sweet opening with Springfield rebuilding after the events of the movie. The plot was really good too. Colbert as always was awesome. Hope they keep it like this the rest of the season.

About the only thing I laughed at was Burns's comment about the flight attendant in the plane: "Just so you know, she'll do ANYTHING. Anything except sex. And I mean, ANYTHING."

The episode felt incoherent. I didn't feel the transition from Homer in Chicago to wanting a job that could get him on a plane to be a natural one, nor was the transition from Homer hiding out in the restaurant to deciding to tell Marge he didn't get the job while on a plane and then having to land it because the pilot just happened to pass out from heroin overdose.

And I'm sorry to say, but Stephen Colbert's guest spot was pretty wasted. He's hilarious on Colbert Report and Harvey Birdman but the script didn't give him much to work with.

The opening was amazing.

The rest of the episode, not so much. On the plus side, there did seem to be more heart here than in other recent episodes, but the jokes all fell flat. Steven Colbert probably would have been funnier playing his own character than the guy he was cast as.

I pretty much feel the same way. I just can't bring myself to be too hard on the episode because I didn't find most of it amusing (If not extremely funny) and Colbert being in it was good whether he was used well or not.
