Hey everyone,

Im might be buying a kawasaki zx6r today from a dealer close to me. The bike is currently up for £5,500 brand new, however im going to try and haggle the dealer down to £5000, plus free tax for a year and a free helmet. What advice would you give me about getting a good deal?

Cheers

Make your offer and keep silent, let him talk and play it by ear. Also if you can go armed with some similar bike ads for the price as proof.
Also it depends on how you're paying for it...finance you have a better chance of getting more off as they can reduce their commission. They can also amend the flat rate of interest.
Heres an example....I just bought a car for an 18k total deal, It was going to cost me £350 initially per month...I spent all day haggling, walked away from it, they rang me back about 5 times with better offers. I ended up paying £312 per month, got free GAP, free warranty, MOT and tax.
Dont be afraid to walk away from the deal but leave your mobile number for them so they can ring you when they change their minds (which they will !).

The longer you talk to him, and ask questions, and make him think and research his answers, the more they are willing to "Bend the rules" to get a sale. Works especially well if they are paid commission. Pay in cash usually helps as well. However, if you try and get too much off, chances are he'll move you on to show you something else. 500 off, plus $450ish for a year tax, AND a helmet ($250 upwards for anything that actually protects), is asking a bit much. Maybe after a long time of talking about the bike and "getting to know each other" (Like, ask if he's ever ridden one, what the general feedback is, ANYTHING to waste time and make him want a sale), say something like "Well I have 5100-5300 to spend, and thats for a bike, rego, and a helmet.", and make it clear that it isnt your only option, and you've checked other places prices, and it could sway more into your favour. Above everything, remember that you're not the first person to try and knock them down a few hundered, and that these guys are the MASTERS of profit.
