buell versus kawasaki?

i have a buell blast but it is way too slow!! im looking to buy a newer bike. but im tight on cash so i am looking at a ninja 500. i would love to have a cbr or a gsxr but i cant afford one. and i want to use the bike as a commuter so mpg is a big deal. the cbr's only get 30-35 from what ive heard and the 500 gets 50-55. my buell gets 60-65 so i dont want too much of a loss. the biggest issue with my buell blast is that when i get to 70 mph it has no power (not safe on highway). 0-60 doesnt really matter to me. i want a bike that gets good mpg, is reliable and can handle highway speeds while still being cheap. do you think a kawi 500 is a good bike after the buell? thanks
