Brokeback Mountain - Channel 4 Tonight!

I wanted to like this film but for the reasons highlighted above found it dismal. I watched it on DVD and had the tv cranked up loud cos I couldnt understand a word. The ending was totally ruined for me cos I'd had trouble with what Ledger's character was saying all the way through. By the end I was just glad for it to be over! :o
Shame really cos I did want to like it. I know the drawl and everything is meant to be part of the character but for me it took it too far the wrong way and I couldnt pick it up at all.

You know, to all the people that are saying they didn't enjoy it due to Heath's accent, that was part of the character of Ennis, he is a recluse, he's withdrawn and antisocial, and the way he speaks reflects that.

I'm sure everyone here has come across someone shy and reserved at some point in their life who spoke very softly, and someone who is extrovert and hyper who shouted everything at the top of thier voice, i know I have, in fact most of my frienRAB comprise those types of people, and you don't blame them for the way they are.

Besides, I heard Heath just fine all the way through, so please don't judge such a great movie based on an opinon of one of the characters voices when there are so many other positive things to love about it.

I liked it a lot. Heath Ledger, in particular, perfectly portrayed the tortured soul who felt deeply but was too buttoned up and inarticulate to express his innermost feelings. A very moving film.

I'm not sure what I think about this film. A friend of mine LOVES it and has raved about it for years. I saw it for the first time last year and liked it ok, but didn't like Heath Ledger very much, and I'm watching it now and finding him very irritating. I'd like it more if I could hear a damn word he was saying.

I could relate to Heath's character so much. I loved this film so so much. I haven't stopped thinking about it today - it's really stuck in my mind. I am going to order the DVD tomorrow.

I watched this for the first time tonight and I am now in tears as I write this :o what a powerful, moving, touching film. I've heard people say they love it and some say they hate it, but I loved it.

As I was watching, I didn't know what to think of it but once the credits rolled, it kind of hit me if that makes sense and I had that sudden realisation over what a tragedy the story was.

Very emotionally draining but so well acted. Absolutely superb.

So what you are saying is that people who are claiming they didn't enjoy the movie because one of the two lead characters' dialogue was inaudible should forget that and claim that they loved it because (in your opinion) Ennis's dialogue was perfectly audible and everything else about the film was brilliant?

I would argue that if Heath Ledger's character had been made to speak properly then it might have received a better reception than it did. But a dull film where only one of the two lead parts can actually be understood (because the other one is mumbling like a bee in a jam jar) is not the be-all and end-all of movie-making.

The film was okay, if you like gay cowboys, but certainly wasn't brilliant, is not a film that I would enjoy watching again. In all honesty, it was very boring and apart from one or two scenes, i.e. the one where Ennis's wife sees them kissing and realises the true situation, the final scene where Ennis goes to Jack's parents, maybe a couple of others, not much happened.

You enjoyed it. So did others. Lots of people didn't enjoy it. They have given you a perfectly legitimate reason for that - one of the movie's main faults. Live with it. In your opinion it is a great movie - in other people's opinion it isn't. End of.

My favourite movie is This Is Spinal Tap. But I haven't (1) started a thread about it and (2) even if I did, I wouldn't berate anybody who gave a perfectly legitimate reason why they don't like it.

I have it in book "novella!" form on it's tod.

Wow on Amazon.com they want to sell it for 81 pounRAB!

I wonder who is silly enough to buy it at that price?

Well, to be fair, not everyone thinks Heath's portyal was bad. I understand some people do but that opinon doesn't make Heath Ledger a bad actor. Nor does it make his portrayal of this particular character bad.

I know what you mean about that completely! Every time i watch it i see something else brilliant and beautiful about it.

The reason i say that everyone has to see this film is because, intolerance, ignorance and bigotry towarRAB sexuality has no place in modern-day society, it has no place in modern-day law or educational teachings, the only place it belongs is in the past, people in Jack & Ennis' time were trapped in a world they couldn't free themselves from, they were afraid of being hated and possibly killed for loving another human being, and it wasn't just two guys one time, it was hundreRAB of thousanRAB, millions over time, i like to think we've changed, and we have, just not enough, everyone is entitled to the same rights and privileges as each other, regardless of people's opinions, so it's time that governments all over the world snapped into shape, and gave same-sex couples the same rights and the same quality of life afforded to heterosexual couples, because if we don't learn from the past, we are only destined to repeat it.

Good post :) I said earlier that I didn't like it as I found it boring and over-rated but I wouldn't force that opinion on anyone else, people can make up their own minRAB.
