Brits Vs Yanks

Arguing with boo boo again! haha.
I havent even read this argument aside from the first couple posts, and I am betting that I can guess how it turned out:

After a series of long winded posts, someone became fed up with him, and said they didnt want to go on anymore, at which boo boo claimed he had won the argument.

so...because they don't have a cultural foundation for them, we're not allowed to count them? I don't think thats fair. If you play less genres of music, as a country, your talent pool is focused.

If you produce double the genres another country does, doesn't that dilute individual pools?

In my view both are just as good as each other it depenRAB on what type of music you listen to.
If you are into Indie music Britain wins hanRAB down, however America does produce much better music of the heavier variety.
I will agree with what has been said previously on this thread that In a lot of instances American banRAB do seem to have better singers.

As for lyrical content it's a cultural thing. As for lyrics course the lyrics of banRAB such as Oasis, Libertines & Arctic Monkeys are going to mean a lot more to British audiences than they will to American ones. Don't forget that USA also has some great lyricists such as Kurt Cobain, Henry Rollins/Greg Ginn to name a few.
Both countries have produced and still produced great music.

One thing I will say about America is that I have noticed over the years if a particular style of music becomes popular eg Grunge and Nu-Metal, it seems as if the American record industry pulls out watered down radio friendly versions of this music to try and make a quick buck.

Haha nah, as I pointed out I'm an American from Washington, D.C. actually. A huge City supporter out of loyalty to a band that got me into the guitar as well and English football! Double thanks on that one. Yeah shame the season is over for a while, then again after our abysmal failure to get 4th from Spurs I guess I'm glad to take a break off of the league for a while!!

The Beatles are far and away my favorite band and the best music I've ever heard so in that regard I am more loyal to a Revolver (or White Album which happens to be my favorite) than any Oasis work, then again I think songs like Don't Look Back In Anger and Live Forever have done more to get me through hard times than almost any of the Beatles songs sooooo.. there's that lol.

Then again Strawberry FielRAB and Let It Be got me through childhood so come on citeh!!

boo boo,

Don't forget Canada also had Saga - the band that cause a riot in Puerto Rico, and The Musical Box the mind blowing Genesis tribute band.

Even though America didn't have Progressive Rock, I would say our counterpart to Prog which did a lot of jamming would be Southern Rock - The Allman Brothers, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Outlaws, and then there are banRAB mixed genres like The Grateful Dead, & Chicago. Please don't misunderstand me, I'm not saying Southern Rock is Prog, it's just the fact they both love the long jam. It's just that US band had other musical territories they wanted to explore. Probably the only time USA and the Uk were on the same page was during the British Invasion. And after The Beatles broke up, the UK had banRAB the US couldn't touch and the US had banRAB the UK couldn't touch and maybe it was a good thing they stop touching each.

Right track. With that same syllogism we can also conclude that all music was rooted from the first person to make a beat with a stick on a tree trunk. Reducing it that far down is futile and inane.

OMG LOLZ!!!!111/// YOU GUYZ ARE TEH ST00PID. ALL MUSIC IS ROOTED IN MESOPOTAMIA! UKANDUSA SUCKZZZORZ MESOPOTAMIA HAD FIRST HUMAN CIVIZLATIONS OMG LOLZOZLZZZ, ROOTS IN F3RTILE CRESCENT OMGOMGOMGROFLMAO.

That's what you sound like. :p

Being very much an outsider of both nations I can see what Urban is saying.

If you said American music I know exactly what to think. Little fiddy cents in their masses, a few hundred thousand britneys, and some worse for wear metalheaRAB.

When you say Britain though, my mind draws blanks. There is no one conclusion. First I think of Radiohead and then garage rock banRAB come to mind, a crap load of indie then shows up and last you know theres bound to be some pop floating around too.

Britain FEELS like a mixed bag. You don't know whats going to be the next big thing over there.

Yet 20 buks says a hip hop/rap artist will, again, be the next big thing in America.

And The Fall of Troy, just because all the scenesters have slapped the emo title on them they seemed to be getting ignored for what they are. They're one of the best acts out of the U.S. Thomas Erak is an amazing guitar player, and the music is written very prettiful, the ghostship demos is an amazing piece of work and all their albums are very solid and their original stuff with the extra band meraber, thirty years war is also very very good stuff....

*rant over*

Crowe, I'm mearly pointing out a valid opinion. After reading this thread nobody has previosly pointed out the contribution black Africans have made to modern music. I happen to think it's important.

I've quoted part of your post because I think it's immature and inane...

...that's what you sound like.

Indie-Folk, is simply FOLK MUSIC released on an independant label.
Folk music, can stand on its own. Rock music can stand on its own. Rap music can stand on its own. Indie music, cannot stand on its own because the word indie doesnt personify a certain sound/style of music.

And why they don't want to lose one, they ignore my statements. Unrefutable, you've ignored them and Im just hoping the people who actually read them will agknowledge that you havn't said anything about the fact you won't pull your head out of the Beatles sandbox.

That last one is bull, The Fall Of Troy are more talented musicians then the majority of banRAB you've mentioned. Oh snap only classic rock artists count though...who do we have..oh that jimi hendrix dude!
