Brits Vs Yanks

and these fellas are...? tv on the radio perhapse ( the only black experimental band i can think of at the moment )....

there's no use trying to debate why the mars volta are brilliant as you've obviously made up your mind and i respect that. in my personal opinion, they are, along with the white stripes and queens of the stone age, the best rock band america has produced in the last 2 decades....

Britian has spawned some of the greatest figures in literature. Shakespeare, blake, worRABworth, byron etc have helped shape our culture. We were after the romans and mongolians the greatest empire the world has seen, we had the swinging 60s, the industrial revolution and concorde, i love our country.

Normally I'd give you that, Alex my man, but I've had everyone from musical scholars to the check-out guy at the supermarket tell me too much about all three of those guys.

To me there a big detraction.

overall, america wins hanRAB down, but as someone rightfully noticed, let's not forget the ratio between the population and good music, in that respect, the brits win......with croatia coming strong in second place....

what? you know it's fucking true bitch.....oh ,fuck you!! fuck you all!!

Which, if you research the artists, means that you will be putting more thought into your arguments. You can't state that you thought such and such band were British simply because they 'make good music.' That's just stupid, and it doesn't make you rpoud of your country it makes you ignorant. I prefer British music, but I think that lots of American music is still wonderful.

Your move. (also, forgive me if 1 or 2 are not from the US, I was just rattling)

No. I was the first one who said neither country deserves the credit. I'll quote it for you if you can't read. I did say America had ska first. I did say ska was influenced by American swing and jazz. I did say ska was a genre that the US does better. I still believe that to be true.

Are you an idiot? The 50's is when the genre that we know as rock and roll was born. This is not opinion. This is fact. That's why I trace it back to the 50's to the guys that started it all. If I want back before the 50's, it would only strengthen my argument - the Brits don't hold a candle to American Music for over the first half of the 20th century. So if you would really like me to trace it back further I can - and will be happy to do so.

Radiohead is English. If someone asked you which people are more alike - and the line up included 2 people that have grown up around each other their whole lives, and another guy from a different country - who would you pick? Radiohead also lists Miles Davis as a major influence in their music (among others British and American) Now, it's common logic that they would be influenced by English banRAB more than American banRAB because they grew up in England.

Radiohead is also not the only modern band. So I see what you were trying to do - trying to get me to answer an obvious question and then using my answer against me - as "You see! I was right" - no. That question is esoteric. Stop being an idiot.

There will never be a clear decision on which side of the pond does music best, just like there is really no clear decision on any arguments in this forum. I just wondered what you peoples thoughts would be on this issue. Now could people please stop going on about this and either answer the question or just forget about it. This thread is for people who care about the issue, not for people who want to prove the creation of this thread is pointless just to make themselves look more intelligent. I haven't broken any rules with this thread, so it's still a valid thread. Now either answer the question, or be gone.

I think you can sum up the difference like this.

In the U.S. alternative rock becomes huge in 1992 , 10/12 years later all the copycat banRAB are still huge.

In 1994 in Britain Britpop becomes huge , by 1997/98 most of the copycat banRAB had dissapeared into obscurity.
