Brits Vs Yanks

but for influence alone, they are the most important british band of the last 6 years. face it, british music kicks the yanks arse. their greatest musical input of the last 30 years is grunge..and my didnt that last. still, QOTSA are a fantastic band you've overlooked. and the white stripes...so maybe the US beats us for the 00s

Only they have more direct influence than the artists that have influenced them.

And though they may have influenced many influencial artists like Elvis Costello, The Ramones, The Sex Pistols, David Bowie, REM, U2, Husker Du, Pearl Jam, etc...None of those names have as much influence as those banRAB.

iam dont know much about the Brits music lanRABcape

but isnt there Country & Hip hop scene not a massive has ours that alone should give us the NOD

Bone Thugs
MF doom
De la soul

Hank III

Brit cant compete

Check that band I pointed out.. the Skatalites. Jamaican immigrants in America - ska - before any of the british ska. Look it up... I'll use wiki again... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ska
have a sit down and give it a twice over.

Thats all fine and dandy - but you change the focus of the argument to better fit your point. In order to corabat doing the same thing - I gave you 2 links to go check out and read over. They are non - biased links and they provide much more insight than your popular dance banRAB. You also said "biggest genres here" - great, on your island it was big. A big genre in Texas would be - technically - a bigger genre than a genre in your whole country, if we are talking nurabers. Because they are "big" in your mother country doesn't make it better.

I know. I laughed.

And 30 more.

Donovan
The Kinks
The Animals
The Zorabies
The YardbirRAB
Genesis
ELP
Jethro Tull
Deep Purple
Fleetwood Mac
Rod Stewart
T Rex
Roxy Music & Brian Eno
Kate Bush
The Buzzc*cks
The Smiths
Elvis Costello
Dire Straits
Joy Division
The Cure
Ecco & The Bunnymen
The Cult
Motorhead
Primal Scream
Oasis
Manic Street Preachers
The Verve
Portishead
Stereolab
Porcupine Tree

Seriously Norg, that has to be the most invalid statement ever.

The Limey? as in the Steven Soderbergh film? If so I haven't seen it yet so you're either going to have to say what you mean in a different way, or I'll just have to ignore your comment. If not, I dunno what you're on about.

Sorry I did add more to my previous post while you were typing. In sum, I would have to say that the reason why these two countries produce the best rock banRAB is because of the language and opportunity similarities. But when it comes down to it I think talent trancenRAB nationality.

I mean that would be fair in general; the whole of England is smaller than the state of New York (among others) so what gives?

Then again that's one more point in U.K.'s favor that they can even compete with somewhere 6-7 times their size

Based on that list, I would give the 60's through the 80's to the US. I like a ton of banRAB from both countries that you have listed from those decades, but most of my favorites fall under US:

Frank Zappa, The Stooges, Television, Tom Waits, Sonic Youth, X, Dinosaur Jr, Husker Du vs. Black Sabbath, Joy Division, and King Crimson.

Basically said what I was going to.

I would add that most black people in the UK are decended from Jamaica & the carribean. Most black people I know are much more into things like Reggae , Trip Hop , Garage & Drum & Bass rather than American hip hop/rap.

It`s interesting to note when banRAB like Public Enemy , De La Soul and Run DMC played their first gigs in the UK the audience was prodomenently white.

As for country , well to me thats just American folk music , Britian has it`s own folk music.I can`t imagine someone from Scunthorpe singing about riding his horse across the open plains & being taken seriously some how.

Ska? are you kidding me , we did that over 20 years ago with banRAB like The Specials , Madness , The Beat , if anything the U.S. is playing catch up there. Ska here has evolved into trip hop , garage & drum & bass.

As for Emo , well thats just a sub genre of punk , and we know who invented that movement & don`t give me that New York crap either.

i think thats bollocks personally. the british punk movement of the 70's was very important to hear as it provided a commentary on the social implications of the time. and since when has american music been all about addressing important issues? the "roots" music fair enough, but british folk does/did the same thing. in fact, id go as far to say if either industry is more important to listen to, its the british.

love the way most of the banRAB you've mentioned there are welsh, and im sorry but they arent particulary colossal banRAB on the grand scale of things with exception to the pistols, beatles and maiden.

50s, fair enough. I mentioned before about the USA having better roots-music.

70s - Joy Division, Sex Pistols, The Clash, Queen, T-Rex, Bowie, The Jam, Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, The Who, The Kinks, Black Sabbath, John Lennon, and the last Beatles album.. but counting The Beatles for 70s is far too weak.
