This just in from ESPN.com - Freddie Patek, former MLB player, has just been named in the Mitchell Report. Investigators were suspicious of Patek's sudden jump from 1 home run in 1979 to an unheard of total of 5 in 1980. That and the fact that Patek ballooned from 148 lbs. in 1979 to a scale tipping 153 lbs. when he reported to spring training in 1980 led to his questioning, as well as his agreeing to be part of the steroid testing that baseball conducted in 2003, despite the fact that he retired following the 1981 season.
Do you think this will keep Patek from the Hall of Fame? Should his home run total of 41 over his amazing 14 year career have an asterisk next to it? And who do you think should be my hero now? My world is shattered at this devastating news. I guess it doesn't pay to have heroes.
Ja77 - I don't know. A guy hits a mess of dingers the first year of testing, then none the next year? Sounds a bit suspicious to me. Sounds like he was coming off the roids, but it took a year for it to really effect him.

He doesn't deserve to be in the HOF for crying on the bench after the Chris Chambliss home run. Need a hero, Scott Podsednik(Chicago White Sox). In 2004 he hit 12 home runs(640 at bats), followed by 0 Home runs in 2005, on 507 at bats. He has hit a total of 31 home runs in 2,850 at bats. He is your type of guy. There is not a shred of enhancements to be found on this guy.
Your new hero.

OMG. I believed in him too. I really though his 41 homeruns were true. Well not I need to find a new idol. Might as well add the asterisk to his homerun total and move on.
