I watched this British film last night on Film4.It stars Pete Postlethwaite, Tara Fitzgerald, Ewan McGregor,Stephen Tompkinson & Philip Jackson.

A small Yorkshire mining town is threatened with being shut down and the only hope for the town's men is to enter their Grimley Colliery Brass Band into a national competition.

I didn't think i was going to like it but i thought it was pretty good.

I was just wondering what others thought about this film?.

I really enjoyed it when it came out but havent seen it since. I had it free with some newspaper a few years ago, I'll have to watch it again.

You have to have sympathy for Stephen Tompkinson character.Him dressing up as a clown for childrens parties just to make some extra money.

When I saw this I believed I was going to see a comedy, as that's how it had been marketed at the time. I came out feeling like shit :( I hate it when this happens with films - also with Muriel's Wedding and East is East. It's annoying that people feel they have to market the 'saleable' aspect of a film otherwise people won't see it. Good film, but I wish I'd been better prepared.

Brilliant film, funny, moving, well acted.

A little bit predictable at times, and I suspect you'll feel more kindly to it if your politics are of a left-ish bent, or are from 'oop-north'

I'd hardly call it around the same time. There is 9 months of a difference

Brassed Off was released November 1996
The Full Monty was released August 1997

Love this film, love the acting and especially the music - I still get chills when I hear the brass band perform the Concerto de Orange Juice!

Agree it was superior to Full Monty although I love that film too.
