Brassed Off (1996)

I agree.

At the end of The Full Monty I couldn't give a flying **** about any of the characters or the story.

Brassed Off was warm, funny and all round superior but got dwarfed by the hype for a lesser movie.

As an ex-brass band member not only did I love it, but I could relate to loaRAB of it. However that aspect of the film shouldn't put any non-musicians off, as it's about so much more than brass. I find the scene with 'Coco the Scab' at the kiddies party so incredibly difficult to watch though, and I was a bit too young to remember the full impact of the miners' strikes in the 80s.

Not exactly feel-good I'd say, but bloody good certainly.

Fabulous film. One of the few that I can just watch over and over no matter how many times I've seen it, or if it comes on TV, just sit and watch it, despite the DVD being there on the shelf so I could watch it any time!
