Bourne Ultimatum!

Robert Ludlum died in 2001, how can anyone collaborate on new material. Recent Robert Ludlum books, including The Bourne Legacy are ghostwritten by high profile authors such as Eric Von Lustbader.
 
Well, I don't want to gush but I've just seen Ultimatum and was totally blown away. Relentless action for 2 hours, with inventive fight and car chase scenes, decent performances and a good screenplay. I take some of the negatives mentioned here (mostly shaky camera work) but I came away feeling knackered after being pinned back in my seat for 2 hours!

Granted, the films don't follow the books very closely, although I am a big fan of the books too, the films do stand up on their own IMO.



You beat me to this point! "The Bourne Betrayal" has also recently hit the shelves. I have read a couple of the post Ludlum books and I don't know about you but I can distinctly tell I am reading a different author.

That said, I personally found some of Ludlum's other work comparable or better than the Bourne series. Maybe these films will serve Hollywood's appetite for taking abother look at Ludlum's books?
 
did anyone else feel ill during the film with the cinematography???

I had to go to the loo half way through and I was sick...felt a bit like travel sickness....shame really cos it spoiled the film for me...

I have spoken to a few people who say the same and a couple left the cinema because of it...
 
I Wasn't sick or anything, but both me and my friend had headaches at the end of it.

TBH i hate it when films overuse the 'Shaky Camera' technique.
 
The books take the character to a whole new level and the films only just get the info out in 3 films that Ludlum takes one and that is with taking out a huge subplot.
 
i am about half way through reading Identity and hopefully i can get through it and supremacy before Friday. I am excited about Ultimatum and have no idea how they are going to do the story without Carlos.
 
They have managed it so far, Carlos was an important part of Identity - the book - no mention in the movie, it's like that part of his character never existed outside of the books:(
 
Yeah, Supremacy was the same, but this one seemed even more noticable.

I think it works for action scenes, it makes car crashes and fight scenes more violent when the camera shakes.... but when two people are sat down calmly talking, it just doesn't make any sense.

But it's pretty much the only thing to spoil the film a little, it's just brilliant otherwise.
 
Yes, it is a shame about the shaky camera - the director is a bit of a one-trick pony.

Such an amazing film and if the camerawork was a bit more varied it could have been even better. Which is quite frustrating and a big shame.
 
yeah i had! but i dont normally go for films in this genre...i'll admit i saw the first one when it first came out because i thought matt damon was cute (yes very immature but that was quite a while ago!) but i ended up loving it and thats why i've went back to see the other two!
 
TBH there were parts in Ultimatum that had me yawning, like the interaction between Julia Stiles and Matt Damon which was unneccessary. When the action arrived it was good, especially the fight scene that I mentioned in my previous post with the array of objects.

The best scene for me was the Waterloo station (It was Waterloo wasn't it?) with the reporter.

But it wasn't the best film of the year for me by far, I have been to see just about all of the Summer Blockbusters this year (Apart from Evan Almighty and Hairspray) and Ultimatum is down on my list at around the middle mark.

I know i'm probably going to be battered for this but Transformers and Rush Hour 3 are above Bourne for me, mainly because Transformers and RH3 had me either gripped or laughing from start to finish. Also the time flew while i was in the cinema watching these which is a sign of a good film for me, whilst for Bourne it seemed to drag.

I know the hate is going to arrive for naming Bourne behind Rush Hour 3, but i felt satisfied and felt i got my money's worth from it at the end of the showing, whilst with Bourne I had a feeling of dissapointment, especially after all the hype it had recieved from critics.

Just my opinion on it, you may now proceed with the throwing of Rotten Tomatos lol.
