Bouquet of Barbed Wire ITV 1

After the first episode I thought it was leading to Gavin being Peters son..Gavin said he had "dirty secrets". Peter seemed shocked when Gavin said they were going to Yorkshire and the grandma knows who Gavin is..they did not follow up on that story though...yet! It seems like Gavin had a terrible childhood so he is making them pay for it..but this all seems too obvious..so there maybe a twist at the end. As for it not like the original BOBW..that is not important in my view..it is good to have a new take on it..I am enjoying it anyway..there is not much else on t.v at the moment that is as good. What did you make of the piece of paper Pru found in the poetry book?...it looked like an obituary of Peter....has he faked his death??...He will not talk about his family, visit his mother or talk at all about his past..that must be a clue. Maybe the equine "snippits" are a clue to him being a dark horse!!

I'm sure there's more to her than that, and we'll see it next week. I bet she's going to be just as nasty as everyone else, and although Peter was promised his partnership back after all the trouble dies down, I think she'll get it in his place.

Totally agree with this.

That was the most appalling episode (and waste of time). Characters changed their viewpoints from one scene to the next for no reason whatsoever and any sense of reality was lost completely as Peter wandered up to a crashed car to speak to his pregnant daughter while not a single paramedic attended to her (despite being on site), then later was able to jump out of a hot air balloon undetected. There's dramatic licence, and there's pure fantasy. Add that to the endless list of unanswered questions and you are left with one unholy mess.

Yet another pile of poo from ITV Drama ...:yawn: Downton Abbey better be good!

Or they could have done a shot-for-shot remake, as some people seem to want.
Anyone see the 1998 Psycho remake? It was brilliant - exactly like the 1960 film in every detail, except it was in colour. If you turned the colour down, you could have been watching the Hitchcock original. It wasn't a remake so much as a duplicate.

Peter had affair with girl

she had baby Paula

Baby Paula adopted by Gavins family

Paula sexually abused/Gavin abused by father

Gavin encouraged Paula to find her real dad

he turns her away & then she dies

Because Gavin couldn't 'have' Paula he decided to find Pru instead

I thnk??

You could be right, dippy - maybe we'll find out next time.

btw has anyone noticed because this thread is 'Bouquet of Barbed Wire' a florist's advert has appeared at the top?:D

I agree with the posters who say it seems rushed. I think that too - there hasn't really been enough time for you to just get used to the characters and their lives and for them to 'bed in'.

I'm a bit confused as whether this is supposed to be a true remake of the original series (and I don't know how long that series was) - or if it's just 'loosely based' on the book???

& I would pronounce it 'bow' 'kay' - not like Hyacinth Boookay on Keeping Up Appearances! :p

The point about the relationship between Prue and Peter is that they are as bad as each other. Susan Penhaligon played it properly - Prue is manipulative and grown-up sexy, she knows exactly the effect she has on her father and plays him mercilessly. Imogen Poots is just another tedious, middle class, Daddy's Girl. There was always tension between Cassie and Prue not chumminess as with Norris and Poots. It's a pointless remake of an excellent series.

Also, as posted earlier - Gavin from the original series (James Aubrey) died in April 2010.

am i being really thick who is Paula? is it the last girl he used to beat to shit or is that the name of his arm?
will Paula turn out to be the girl he is sleeping with?

I never watched the original, although I know of it. I will watch it tonight as I like Trevor Eve and think he's a good actor - although don't think I've actually watched him in anything since Shoestring! :o (which I loved) :)

Plenty of torrents online if you aren't willing to pay an extortionate amount for the original. Must be streamed somewhere as well.

Spot on.. He really has zero charm unlike the original Gavin who was or appeared much nicer that this d*ickhead.

I would like to add that I was quite young when watching the original.:D
