Bouquet of Barbed Wire ITV 1

I recently bought the box set (including 'Another Bouquet' ) and have already watched the whole thing three times. Although it dragged in places I can't see how the new series is going to squeeze everything into just 3 episodes.

I will give it a go although obviously it's not going to have the same impact as the original.
 
I wouldn't say the acting is bad. They are all competent actors, we know that from their CV's. If there are faults, they lie with the script and direction.
We can only presume that this is the way the writer and director wished to portray the story.
Personally, I think it's disappointing because the original was so much more challenging. The original did make a lot of people feel uncomfortable, it explored the dark side of our sexual nature.
I think an updated remake of the original would still make people stop and think today, more than 30 years on. The subjects of incest and sadomasochism are still regarded as taboo, and rarely explored in drama. But in this offering, everything is much more superficial, and the characters lack any depth.
There's nothing wrong with this version as a different form of drama, in fact it's quite entertaining. I just think it's a pity, the original stuck in the memory for years, this will be soon forgotten.

The voiceover lady just said Boo-kaye when she introduced it! She's said Bow-kaye for the last few weeks! :confused:

I understand why she was with him well enough: she's a teenager and consequently is devoid of common sense.

A bright girl I used to teach dropped out of school at the age of seventeen to live with her thuggish ex-convict boyfriend (he was tried for manslaughter as well, but found not guilty) and have his babies. Her mother was a colleague of mine, so I got all the details. She's still with him three babies later and still supporting him because he won't work.

Some women are nuts.
 
yeah I'm at a loss to who to like. Mind you in the original, all 4 players were a pretty dislikeable bunch. I'm just miffed that this has gone from a character driven drama to a shock thriller mystery. I think it's okay on it's own but as I've said before, it shouldn't be called A Bouquet of Barbed Wire as it bares no resemblance to the original. It's like someone remaking ET and making more like Saving Private Ryan.
 
It's difficult to imagine until you see it in real life.
A lot of people are attracted to total tossers, and teenagers in particular are blinded by their hormones.
 
I have a question.......

Did the mother honestly forget about the present or was her smile because she knew that her husband was mentally unstable and could well jump. Maybe to protect prue's daughter becoming his new obsession or am I completely reading to much in this?
 
It's a different actor.

Tom Riley (who plays Gavin) didn't play Moriarty in the recent Sherlock drama. Though I noticed he was starring in a Poirot that was broadcast last week.

The actor who played Moriarty was interviewed in today's Metro newspaper.

They may both have brown eyes though :)

I said to my OH when watching on Monday night 'The guy playing Gavin reminds me a bit of the actor who played the original' ... I was sad when I came on here to discover he'd died, that's very sad, he was reasonably young.
 
I'm with you there!..... i don't think i like this at all!, i never watched the first time around and as i said to my sister (who loved it the first one) it looked to me too much like incest and she said 'no it wasn't', but i still have the same impression, it's too creepy for me.......:(
 
Someone should tell that announcing lady that it's 'bookay'!

That reminds me, I watched the original and the sequel which we always referred to in our house as Another Bucket (of the same). :D Very compelling, daring drama at the time though.
