Bouquet of Barbed Wire ITV 1

I've watched both episodes so far, and i'm completely lost at the moment!! There must've been a vital part that I missed at some point. What exactly is going on???

It's difficult to imagine why a 17-18 year old would be so infactuated with the boyfriend to the point she'd want to marry him there and then. He comes across as your typical mid-20s, thinks-he's-made, arrogant, "trendy" type. Not really a lot to him to be honest.

It wasn't a patch on the original series with Frank Finlay. The last episode was pants IMO.
I'm guessing it's all this pc crap taking over and they daren't show the intense relationshop between the father and daughter. There was no incest in the original, but it was hinted at, and passions ran way higher than in this series.
This series came across a bit deflated from the original.

Gavin did look a bit like the original Gavin though so they got something right at least.

Basically they attempted to combine A Bouquet of Barbed Wire and Another Bouquet in to three episodes. Along the way they missed out all of the wit charm and darkness of the original and developed storylines that had absolutely nothing to do with the original whatsoever (the whole Paula subplot)

The result? One huge, terrible, incomprehensible mess!

I agree with you on that!....the acting was questionable the story unbelievble the editing and directing disjointed and the ending weird ! it reminded me of doing a jigsaw with several pieces missing and some of the other pieces and the picture on the front off a differant jigsaw !!

Oh, thanks. :) That's cleared one thing up for me!

I think last night's episode was gripping. I agree with others that it's turning into a thriller while the original was not about that at all.

Its dark, dark stuff.

But drama should be challenging. Incest happens, that much is a fact. So as long as its done well, why NOT do a story about this?

And ITV have clearly realised this has a lot to live up to and have put a lot of effort into it. Personally I still prefer the slower pace of the original, but all in all its a pretty decent standard for a modern ITV programme.

Up till now it's just been a mixture of underacting, SERIOUS overacting, screaming, shouting and sha**ing. Now all of a sudden it's very, very sad and depressing...........:(
