Bottom, Young Ones, or Filthy Rich And Catflap

Bottom by a fair distance.

The Young Ones had its moments but is very much mired in the 80s. FR&C was decent but sorely lacking in direction. Sort of like watching a substandard work-in-progress version of Bottom.

Bottom was the peak. What a thought that the same channel that brought us such gems as The Crouches and Big Top turned down a full new series of Bottom when Rik & Ade offered it to them.

The Young Ones is definitely the best show overall but both Bottom and Filthy... had fantastic moments. Filthy... isn't as widely known by everyone because, like someone has already said, it hasn't really been repeated much. You can get the DVD though for only a fiver! Definitely go for it if you've never seen it. The series is definitely an 'experience'! You get the feeling they knew during making it that it wasn't working as well and that they wouldn't make another series.

I think the main problem for me about Filthy Rich was that it was miscast. If you watch it more than once, you can tell that Ritchie and Eddie's characters are not really written for the Dangerous brothers type of slapstick and would probably work better with a bit more subtle characterisation. Mind you dont know how that would fit in the the knob gags in it.

Also in Filthy Rich, you can see that Nigel planer can genuinely act, as he is playing a vastly different character from Neil in the young ones
