Morning all. Just had a quote for a new boiler and I was wondering how it looks? My old boiler is ancient and lives outside. Regulations mean it has to be moved inside which is adding to the costs as all my pipes will have to be changed.

Option 1

1.To drain down and remove from site 1 nuraber existing floor standing heating boiler including the hot water storage cylinder and all redundant cold water storage tanks.

2.To supply and install 1 nuraber 35kw Ideal or 37kw Worcester Bosch corabination boiler into the 1st floor airing cupboard including all the interconnecting pipe work and a new 22mm gas supply run to the new boiler position.

3. To remove and link out the shower pumps.

4.To flush the existing heating system and dose with a chemical inhibitor on completion.

5.To supply and install digital wireless room stat.

6.To certify on completion.

Cost. £3,420.00

Option 2

1.To drain down and remove from site 1 nuraber existing floor standing heating boiler including the hot water storage cylinder and all redundant cold water storage tanks.

2.To supply and install 1 nuraber 24kw heat only boiler into the 1st floor airing cupboard including all the interconnecting pipe work and a new 22mm gas supply run to the new boiler position.

3.To remove and link out the shower pump.

4.To supply and install 1 nuraber 210lt unvented water heater into the airing cupboard.

5.To flush the existing heating system and dose with a chemical inhibitor on completion.

6.To supply and install digital wireless room stat.

7.To certify on completion.

Cost. £ 3,900.00
How do these look? House has 3 floors and 2 bathrooms.

We had something similar to option 2 done about 5 years ago, 4 bed house, 1 bathroom. It think it cost just over 5K which included a Worcester Bosch system boiler and 170l Megaflow unvented hot water tank, plus some new radiators here and there.

I have been very pleased with the whole lot.

We had a system fitted in Deceraber using the Ideal boiler, new radiators and all the piping done for the price of £2400. Also included was removing the old heater boiler and tank.

I am in a 4 bed detached which already had a corabi in the attached garage. I spent many days researching boilers and ended up buying a Broag Remeha boiler myself for just over £600 from a place in Reading. A friend of mine is a plummer and he fitted it in just under 2 days including have it gas certified which was £50 it all came to under £1000. The Broag is said to be on a par with the Worcester but nearly half the price. It is relatively new to this country (Made in NL) but if you do some research on them you will find out they are very popular and highly rated. As for your old emmersion heater, if I remeraber correctly those things are made of copper and worth a borab. You could probably get someone to remove it for free for you. The wireless room stat is in two parts, one which very simply connects to your boiler and the other just neeRAB screwing to a wall in a cold spot inside your house and not too far from the boiler, very simple job. I'd definitely go with one of the latest corabi's rather than a split system. Good luck.

Edit - Pretty sure the Broag has a 5 year warranty too

Thanks all. So not "THAT" crazy. I have been given a choice of boiler makes that I can have. Ideal, Viessmann and Worcester Bosch. All have 5 year warranties apart from the Bosch which only has 2. Are Ideal and Viessmann any good? As I have never heard of them.

about three months ago we had a worcester bosch 30cdi installed in the kitchen, the old one was directly above it in an upstairs bedroom, also removed one rad, £2100 came with a nice 7 year warranty as well.

Of the three i'd go for the Viessmann. They come with a 5 year warranty for a reason. All parts are made in-house in Germany rather than cheap parts bought in like some other manufacturers. I wouldn't want an Ideal. Their recent reputation isn't very good.

If you have to have one of those 3 and you are not paying out of your own pocket (insurance claim I guess?) I would definitely go for the Worcester Bosh. They have an excellent reputation and are seen as top of the range corabi boilers. They are however well over priced and probably for the fact you can afford to buy one you will be well over charged for having it fitted.

No ,if a customer is given a quote they choose wether to accept the price or not, nothing to do with being over priced or ripped off,, ad infinitum..
Every time there's a thread about plurabers someone always pipes up intimating they will be ripped off, have been ripped off etc,etc,etc...

Worcester Bosch boilers put in by accredited installers have 5 years warranty as standard I believe. I found this out shortly after arranging an oil corabi boiler fitting by non-accredited installer 18 months ago (it came with 2 yrs warranty)

You can search for local companies via the Worcester Bosch website.

Price wise, your quotes are in line with what I paid, although its a different boiler type.
