Blog Talkback: Toons of the 2000s: Top 25 Animated Television Series Countdown #5-1

I agree mostly with this list and number 1. I loved Avatar so much, I went out of my way to watch the series finale on vacation. My only complaint with this list is the lack of The Secret Saturdays but you can't win them all.

Valerie isn't a villain. She fits more of the Anti-Hero archetype; she does good by saving Amity Park from evil ghouls, but is too stubborn to see Danny is a hero. She herself doesn't possess or inherit a traditional evil intention, she's just clouded with her own one-minded judgment. The same goes for Danny's parents who equally pursues Danny Phantom due to their dislike for ghosts, no matter how much he's saved the town.

I agree that South Park and Justice League/Unlimited should be higher - the latter I see as more a Top Ten. As for DP, well, Duds, typically speaking, ALL series have some sort of flaw. You can't just single out Danny Phantom as though it's the only series that contains something that weakens it when in aspect every series has something that bugs another. Maybe it's best if you tell us what you consider it to be flawed.

Whoa, I wouldn't go that far. The list is being quite kind as-is, and I think popularity only carries so far. It can be very funny but it's not so amazing that I wish it were at the very top.

I'm pretty pleased with Futurama's placement. I rarely didn't find that show really funny, and it had such an eccentric cast. Zoidberg > Stewie, I say!

I think the staff would have lost their marbles if they had to do 100, what with difference of opinions. I know I would if I had to debate why "series X" deserves a spot over "series Y" or why it deserve to be on the list.

I agree with this. The animation did get better as the series progressed, that and the characters changed a bit in design, and I noticed that more near the halfway point of season 2 when the Gang was in Ba Sing Se. The art was amazing to look at, especially during the fight scenes.

Vlad most definately, and yeah Valerie's more of an anti-hero, but I never got why Evil Danny was considered such a good villain. He could have been cool (he had a great evil voice after all) but then they had to go and make his evil plan causing the disaster that drove himself to evil. This makes no sense, as now that Danny knows that he's the one who will cause that accident, he most likely isn't going to go evil and turn into the guy who killed his friends and family. All in all, good concept, horrible execution.

At the end of an era, cameos seem more wanted and appropriate, what with most of the discussion on shows missed out on what was in hindsight a very productive decade.

Ok was teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2003 forgotten all together? The show that is in my opinion the best action show of this decade is forgotten when far worse shows are remembered. now I realize that this whole thing was based on opinion and most of these shows desurved a spot but to see my number one show of the past ten years shafted well is makes me mad.

I love Avatar and all but from where I stand it's the third best action cartoon of this decade not the best. TMNT 2003 is the best.

Something tells me Flapjack isn't going to make the list. Which I find unfair because Chowder made the list and it's not as hot as it was in its first season, while Flapjack has only gotten better.

No, it's right there in opening credits. That's a frame-grab from the season 4 DVDs. Episode 419, "Time Flies Like a Dark Matter Banana," where the Planet Express crew fooled around with time travel (and before Bender's Big Score, even). At the time, I thought that was a pretty audacious statement to make on the part of the writing staff, but now I see that it wasn't hubris as much as a prediction. In fact, I'm wondering if the time travel equations you see whipping by on blackboards in the episode are really partially revealing the staff's calculations for a time warp. They are a bunch of really serious math and science geeks, after all.

In other words, yeah, that's a manipulated frame grab in Photoshop :D.

Well, there were a lot of factors, but mostly because there were biases on both ends, particularly from those critical of Seth MacFarlane. There was also a majority that felt that American Dad was too much of a derivative of Family Guy. Personally speaking, it was an unfortunate omission to say the least. Of the three shows Seth has on the air, I think American Dad is the best. It's just that Family Guy is the more higher-profile series of the three.

I don't speak for rabroad. I speak for myself. I didn't have enough time recently. Been trying to find steady work and put a lot of concentration on finding it. I'm a substitute teacher now, so, that's why I've been nearly invisible as of late.

I liked Moral Orel.

As a Christian, I was a little offended by certain aspects of the series, but I was also entertained by it, largely because it did skew a lot of the stereotypes of religious individuals. Plus, I actually know and break bread with folks like that. Orel was probably one of the decade's purest characters aside from Spongebob, and to see him transform from an optimistic kid loving everything about the world to one who realized the world isn't as perfect as he thought and saw his father for what he really was, a selfish jerk not really adhering to the laws he forced his son to follow, was jarring and actually pretty powerful for a cartoon that's supposed to be just for laughs. The series transformation into an animated drama was shocking and well-played.

ok, i know there are differing opinions on this stuff, but NO Spectacular Spider-Man? No X-Men: Evolution? No Batman Beyond? Kim Possible at 4? I enjoyed it, but only to a point. Samurai Jack was ok, but i don't see it as #3. never seen foster's home, so i can't comment. Avatar is apparently really good, but #1? maybe top 5, maybe. I'm shocked Simpsons isn't on here. I'm not a fan, but i would say it's probably better than futurama.

What would everyone think if the posters of rabroad created their own top 10 at least? I know that a lot of us seem to differ from the list, so i wonder if people would want to do top 10 cartoons of the decade, similar to what The Cartoon has done with the top 50 shows of all time. It wouldn't be hard to do, just send me a PM with your top 10 shows of the decade. If i get enough people, I will start a countdown around Christmas or New Year's Day. What do you all think?
