Blog Talkback: Toons of the 2000s: Anime We Hope Never Come to America

If that's true, then it was for theatrical ratings reasons, not legal ones. If you do a quick Google search you'll find the Japanese Blu-ray was uncensored.

Also it would help if you could provide some links. I'm not finding anything about Kinsey's screening resulting from a change in the law.

That article is about pornography - and obscene materials are against the law in the United States as well, we just have differing definitions of "injurious to public morals." And you're right that films get censored sometimes. But I highly doubt Japan would block the exhibition of, say, Gustave Courbet's L'Origine du Monde or a recreation of Michelangelo's David.

I know perfectly well that the blog wasn't intended to troll 4chan. It's just that that's all it accomplishes. In the spirit of being fair and balanced, we end up with a self-contradictory post which says "We hope that these series sink like a rock and are utterly forgotten, and to that end we're going to make sure everybody who reads this blog knows they exist."

:proud: Now you understand. I cant speak for everyone who likes fanservice, but that?s the way I see it.

Okay, I understand that, but what I don?t get is how come the ecchi shows are flopping and hentai is doing well (I think)? With hentai, companies seem to release pretty much anything they can get their hands on without much repercussion, but when it comes to ecchi, companies seem to be playing Russian Roulette with five bullets. I thought they catered to mostly the same crowd?

I don?t know. I?ve seen the KissXSis ovas and I?m a big fan of the manga and I think they succeeded in being perverse and erotic. If I could fault the anime, I think it was way too faithful. The service scenes should have gone on longer and possibly been more perverse.

I think Queens Blade somewhat fails at being a fanservice show. Sure, it has more fanservice than most and lots of different fetishes, but some episodes have surprisingly small amounts of T&A. The character designs and backgrounds look good but there?s little actual animation (constant closeups of the characters faces and people just standing around talking) especially the ova?s. More often than not, it takes itself too seriously and spends too much time telling a story no one cares about. It should have been more lighthearted and filled with copious amounts of fanservice. It?s good for viewing the best parts as GIF?s and screenshots, but otherwise there?s just too much unnecessary crap mixed in for it to be considered a fun and titillating 24 minutes.

I?m not going to lie, I like fanservice shows, but I find a lot of them to be a chore to sit through.

Just because it's horrible, tasteless, and bad, doesnt make it banworthy.
It's not like people are rushing to ban the Saw series, and that's 10 times as worse as this is.
