Biology help ! plant tissue culture?

im doin an invetsigation into plant tissue culture and totipotency.
the aim is to find out how small a leaf strip can be to produce a new plant.
can someone answer these questions ?
why did the smallest leaf cutting(1.0cm) failed to produce new leafs ?
why did the largest leaf cuttings take less time to produce new leaves and visa versa ?
please help
