Because it barely impacted consumers. The real concern about price fixing is that all the companies will get together and cause eggs to become $10/dozen or something ridiculous - and if they did something like that then they would have been caught much sooner.

No bid contracts, government created monopolies, and inflation due to government overspending cost the average consumer much more than Land O'Lakes 10 years of slightly increased egg prices ever did. And now the Land O'Lakes price fixing is solved, yet the government problems continue on with no end in sight.

No, but everyone gets up in arms about price fixing like it will cause vital products to become 1000x more expensive and then eggs will only be affordable to the upper class. Obviously it's not the case. It's not legal, and it's not ok, but it obviously doesn't have a huge impact in practice.

In this case the government did their job, and now there is no more price fixing. What's the problem?

If there IS price fixing for an extended period of time then the government isn't doing their job.

Judging based on this case, and the previous one...I'd say there's an overwhelming body of evidence to suggest wrong doing.

That's a hefty chunk they're giving up to avoid litigation. I don't know if I'd jump on the "well they're just trying to save money" bandwagon despite their claims.

But yes, if they settle...they accept some level of liability. They are paying their accuser because they don't want to fight them.

Yet still illegal...so there was a problem.

The problem is that some people are willing to say "well this company didn't do anything wrong....my eggs are still kind of cheap...I can go to a local supplier....you can choose ways around this."

When you can't choose ways around it. It circumvents the obvious...that they were price fixing and it was illegal.

Why does it matter?

"Yes, your honor, I hit her with a wrench, but how much of her brain damage was caused by my hitting her with a wrench, and how much was caused by her being a retarded fucking cuntrag?

Anyway. The doctors say Diesel's mom will pull through."

whats the point to pointing shit out in a vacuum? Look, I pointed it out. I didn't give any insight, I didn't express how this factoid relates to my overall viewpoint in a coherent, concise manner....i just pointed it out.

reminds me of you forgot poland.

My position is that it IS bad when companies distort a market, but not AS bad as when the government distorts a market - thus, big business > big government.

The thread about price fixing? How will that support your point, that the government does it worse, or that when price fixing occurs because of the government, it a more serious case of price fixing?

Why don't you take of the dancing shoes and answer? Why is price fixing (or manipulation of the market) 'worse' when the federal government does it?

Size? Scale? Principle? Sounds good to say?

it's not a distortion of the market though, a company can set any price they want. There is no big difference from Company A setting a high price and Companies A, B and C setting the same price.

You as a consumer have the decision to buy from them.

Similarly it takes years to catch companies for something like price fixing and make a case...even afterward there is no remedy that it will never happen again as seen here...there's just a settlement.

Cost of litigation is too high. Government bureaucrats go on power trips because they know they can browbeat companies to pay fines rather than go bankrupt defending themselves. It's pure bullshit, and yet another reason big government sucks.
