Big food at it again V. Price fixing and why we don't trust big business

Speaking for myself, this is not the case. But you and I may disagree on whether or not a company's actions were wrong. The flat comment that because a company agreed to a fine is not particularly proof they did something wrong. It is proof, at the minimum, that they felt it was not worth the cost of the fight.

I'll give you an example. If the IRS comes and insists you owe them $1,000.00, and give you reasons why, will you pay it? What if you actually know there is a reason you don't actually owe the money, but the functionary is being an asshole and refuses to listen. How far do you go to try and prove your point? To court? Where it will cost you at a minimum tens of thousands of dollars? Which is not refunded?

I have little faith in these types of supposed examples of price fixing. They often only mean the people in charge have determined the fine is cheaper than the cost of defending the lawsuit. Having been involved in one, we paid 5 million back in the early 80s.

I guarentee I could go to CA and say shit.

I guess I couldn't be a national figure with the largest entertainment following and be negligent about my choice of words.

Your qualities as a hack shine brighter than ever.

did you even read my posts ? The second line is pointing out that the large increase wasn't neccesarily because of the price fixing, but also the fact that price of food went up for many other reasons (fuel cost is a huge one).

So yes, eggs price was inflated due to "unsavory" and illegal business practices, but shit... everything went up.
you can't compare the inflationary number of eggs in a vacuum. Price of food skyrocketed during the last year or so.

No he was not. These meaningless fines are nothing and provide very little deterrent. Throw down the real life perma-ban hammer on some of these motherfuckers and even the hint of impropriety by those that follow would no longer exist to anywhere near the extent it does now.

I don't understand why there is a double standard of punishment between a private citizen and a company. If I break the law while fucking over someone, I can expect to lose everything. It would be a life altering event. But if Land O Lakes breaks the law it's cut a check and move on.

When did I say there should be no government? When did I say a government can exist without money.

The problem is BIG government. Government that gets into things they shouldn't be into, and government that is in bed with the corporations that you liberals hate so much. An effective government can exist with FAR less money than our current government gets.

Overzealous? Why do you think this occurs? Hint: that huge post I made, pages ago, addresses this.

What you need to do is explain how, as you claimed, it is 'worse' when the government does this.

which is why I think they ought to make price fixing a felony offense for the CEO, CFO, and the vice president in charge of that.

If you think it's shitty then don't support any business with a corporate structure. Buy everything from individuals.

But I guess you're not willing to give up your wants.

The title states comspiracy. I see no legal verbage there of conspiracy. Titles are used to get attention.

They agreed to pay for a class action suit which has a very low burden of proof.
If there were an actual conspiracy then I'm sure some governing body would press charges.

did you not see the FAIL that happens when people get into government who want to end regulation and appoint people to overlook it that agree with that ideology?

look at the joke of the SEC during Bush. what the fuck were they doing?

MMS is a joke too, a culture of not giving a shit.

The anti trust people under Bush let Miller and Coors merge. why? because the people who were calling the shots don't believe in regulation.

and from another angle, do you have any idea what it takes to organize an anti-trust case? This isn't for every attorney with a swinging dick. I don't know why they pursue charges, but to assume that because the goovernment didn't file charges doesn't mean there is no conspiracy.

Eggs went up six times more than the highest increase you quoted, and we have direct evidence of collusion.

What's the question?
