Lets not get down on BEV now.

Rogers is raising prices.

The grass isn't always greener.

Those filthy rich buffoons at BCE needs to stop bullying its customers. My money are earned through hardwork with skills. BCE is constantly raising the prices with its Expressvu service. The channels they offer sucks very badly. Why do customers need to pay for redundant OTA channels when they are already free? It looks like I will cancel their service very soon and persuade my colleagues to cancel as well. :(

Ya I know it's old news, but we got the letter announcing the increase today.

We've been sort of unhappy with MCHD what with the plethora of C movies, so the letter was kind of the final straw. Called and dropped MC and a theme pack. So we're going to pay $4 more a month for digital basic, but we'll still save $20 a month. Thanks for the incentive, Bell :)

We're going to start tracking what we watch and if most viewing is of networks, we're also going to drop all the theme packs. Most of the specialty channels seem to have deteriorated and show a lot of repeats - I'm sure Debby Travis and Mike Holmes are great folks but we're getting awfully sick of seeing their faces on every second channel. Maybe the digital were always this bad and we've just over the novelty of all the extra channels. Whatever the reason - we're starting to cut back thanks to the letter.

Thanks Bell!

I have reactivated 3 old receivers with no charge in the past 18 months.

You can cancel your service for 6 and and subscribe again as a new sub and take advantage of the specials.

i thought 40 sounded rather lofty, but i don't know what the internal plans are to achieve this...perhaps another bird or two from DTV?...i don't know...perhaps we will only see another 10 channels...either way, expect Bell to be a leader in HD however it ends up.

It would appear you have a grace period to make changes without the increase. The last day on my letter would would be Jan 31 as they state "However, as an existing term client, your current Digital Standard basic service rate will continue to apply until the end of your contract period, [contract end date], unless you make a change to your programming selection on or after February 1, 2007."

Bell Global Media, BGM, - its being renamed CTV-GM. It no longer is heavily owned by BCE.

BCE only owns 15% of BGM, soon to be CTV-GM.

Toronto Star, Thompson family, and Ontario Teacher's Pension are the big owners.

They only own the 15% so they have leverage in the content they provide.

So I highly doubt what you are saying about promoting their "own" channel Discovery.

It would be too funny if someone with a 9200 took this route to save a few bucks and in the interim the rumoured swap took place and they missed out:D

sorry...here you go:

The New French Menu

Effective February 1, 2007

$4 increase on Base num

and pay more for less with someone else?

even with a possible increase, it is still priced competitively in the marketplace.

also, LOTS of HD coming next year...that and the MPEG4/hardware swap require a lot of money.

The Theme packs going up $3 is for the french ones. So all theme packs are $8 (English or French).

Bell Expressvu called me last night asking why I cancelled my service. I said because of the price increse coming February 1st. He said that is news to him.

I said as if you don't know that an increase is coming. I asked if he wanted to see the insert that came with my bill that day stating the increase. He did not respond.

I'm a rental customer since October 2005 (2 year contract expires Oct. 2007), I rent a 9200 receiver. I got a letter last week indicating that as of my next bill, I will get the price increase. I don't understand why some rental clients will get hit and others won't. Although I do have to admit that this increase had me looking at StarChoice a bit more closely. Now I'm not looking at people to jump at me because I wrote that. Just wondering if content I care about is cheaper at StarChoice (which it may in the end not be the case). Ah well, have to live with bad as well as the good.

it has nothing to do with promoting their "own" channels, and more to do with bandwidth and negotiating the cost to carry the channels.

Will the 5 packs for $20 thing stay the same? Also, $26 a month for just MeteoMedia, TV5, and RDI is beyond contempt (the rest are all local OTAs I get for free)!

Whats the big deal with Expressvu raising their prices?
Dont you think they have expenses that they need to cover while making a profit as well?
Yes we can all bitch and complain till were blue in the face but it all boils down to either you want Expressvu at their cost or you dont.

Star/Shaw is also raiseing prices. They are still competivie. All the providers are going to raise their prices. I am in England now, you see see the prices for hardware and satellite. We have a great deal in Canada.

I'm paying $55 now until Sep 07 and it'll be $61 for me, a $6 increase a month. While you can argue it might not be much but why should I pay $61 a month just to watch TV?

If I lived in the TO/Windsor region, I'll probably ditch pay TV altogether and just go OTA.

If you add up all the cell phone, land line, internet, cable, security monitoring bills etc., you'll easily hit $500 before paying your mortgage.

I'll suspend Bev from Jun to Sep when there's no sports or TV shows on so that I can save a little.

If Bev makes good on their mpeg4 swap promise, then I wouldn't mind so much.

what dirtyjeffer is saying is

if the whole marketplace rips us off...it's OK for ExpressVu to rip us off as well by constantly raising the price...but staying "competitive"

:)

Whats this MPEG4/Hardware swap ? Does this mean I will have to buy a new HD PVR to get new channels ?
