BEV Price Increase...

i emailed a contact at BEV...he confirmed there are plans for MPEG4 and a hardware swap, but couldn't give a concrete time frame...i did hear before that Bell plans on adding 40 HD channels next year, and i know bandwidth is tight right now, so unless some more DTV birds are coming in soon, expect to see it.

The 40 new HD channels will also include new HD offerings from some of the smaller broadcasters. A little bird told me that the Asian Television Network will be airing a new HD channel on BEV next year. However, based on their current PQ, it will just be upconverted SD (the amount of compression on ATN channels sickens me, but the family watches it anyway).

So while there will be more HD, not all of it will be English/French.

:o rip for a useless bunch of crud indeed.

I'm on a fixed income, how will I be able to keep BEV?

all-in-one customers have price protection on their hardware, but not on the programming.

all-in-one customers will have to pay the $4 increase.

Remember "Man on Fire": It's business, nothing personal.
They will nibble here and there until it backfires.
So far it hasn't if you believe how many customers they add per quater.
When THIS happens, they will backpedal.
Until they do, you are in minority.

I have had BEV for over 6 years. In October, they agreed to pay for the installation to upgrade my dish to HD.

Problem #1....they didn't have an authorized installer in Burlington Ontario (really!). However, I was promised that all I had to do was pay for the installation myself, and then BEV would credit my account for that amount. All I had to do was fax them the bill.

Problem #2.....I faxed them the bill on October 20. Still no credit when I checked at the end of November. Told to wait another week or so, because credits can take four to six weeks. (BTW, can I send all of my payment to them four to six weeks late? NOT!!)

Problem #3.....call again in the first week of December, am told to fax it again. I am told that a note for the credit should appear on the notes for my account very shortly after, but it may take four to six weeks to process the credit (sound familiar?)

Problem #4.....call again the second week of January, no record of credit. Apologetic CSR listens to my story, and decides to place the request for credit immediately. However it may take four to six weeks to process the credit (sound familiar?)

Bottom line.....paid in mid Octber, best I can hope for is a credit in February.

And people wonder why we get upset!!

I got a written notice stating that Digital Favorites is going up on February 1, 2007, from $27 to $31. However, as an existing term client just heading into the second year of a two year contract, my price will remain the same, unless I downgrade my Theme Packs or Movies. I can apparently add programming without it going up, so I guess there is some benefit to "contracts".

well, i guess we know where the company is getting the money for the hardware swap for MPEG4. :(

Jeffer,

Thanks - got your message on the other board about the $4 price increase.

Can you explain more about the increase in theme packs? They're already $8, (or $5 if you order more than 4, right?)

Is it now just just $8 / theme pack or are there more stipulations to this.

That would increase the guy who has 5 theme packs by a bunch of money.

Please let us know. Thanks.

I think what is rate now, and the way it will stay is:

$8 per theme pack
5 theme packs for $20
Additional theme packs after 5, are $5 / each.
11 theme packs for $40

if you are in ontario, the theme pack prices stay as is...quebec pricing is simply aligning with ours, that's all...theirs didn't change from the $5 price.

I signed a two year contract about a month ago, my bell ;) is the following:

Digital Standard $27
5 Themes $20
HD Value Pack $10

Plus taxes.

My first bill is for two months and I don't see any increases: I guess I am locked into this price until contract expires?

P.S. What current HD channels will I lose come Tuesday?

Thanks

Comparing the English and French it seems cheaper to by the French Digital Standard for $26 and add English Channels for $3, than to buy English Digital Standard for $31 and add French Channels for $2. Do you end up with the same channels and if so why the difference?

15% price increase on the digital standard...Frig that is a huge increase, then add the possible Global/CTv/CBC beggers fee and that digital standard is gonna be expensive.

CRTC give us the right to not be forced into these channels!!!!

I just received a notice from Bell regarding the increase. It did state however that because I am tied into a 2 year rental agreement, my package will not increase until I make a change to the programming. That change can include anything from adding or removing a single channel. If I leave the programming untouched, my price will not increase.

no, what i am saying is that while price increases suck, the service is still priced competitively in the marketplace...it's what an open and free market does, price things according to what the market can bear...i don't think BEV has every actually made any money, and with another $400+ million for Nimiq3, don't expect any profits soon.

search the boards in here for MPEG4 and you will find out about it...you will need new hardware when they make the switch.

WESTMANGUY,

You hit the nail right on the head, "you wonder why people account split". My brothet in-law just got COGECO HD package when he bought a new tv ( Free HD receiver for a year & basic HD package). He also bought the HD Sports package which includes NHL,NFL,College Football and OHL for one year. The price was just a little more than BEV charged me for the NHL Centre ice by itself !!

$15/mo if you call. $10/mo if you do it online. Good luck with EV's web site.
