I've finally caved in and got BEV Digital.

A few kinks that hav had to be ironed out but so far I'm satisfied.

One thing that I've noticed, which maybe some more experienced users can comment on:

I have 3 TVs/receivers - 1 PVR (5900) and 2 standard receivers. I used to have Rogers and always found the Themes browsing option useful. With my PVR receiver, when I browse using the specials/series theme, none of the channels from the Lifestyles package (and a few others) show up. My other 4 packages are all represented. When I do the same thing at the same time on my 2 standard receivers, the series/specials theme shows all the channells missing on my PVR receiver. Under the menu options, I have the favorites option set to show all channels. It's annoying because most of my TV watching is done on this TV, and I really like to use the Themes Browser. Now I have to use the guide to flip through tons of channels to see what's on/coming up on these mysteriously missing channels. Has anyone else experienced this? I phoned tech support and the guy there could barely speak english and was useless. He basically told me that it is all because of the PVR receiver, that there may be shows that do not show up in the Themes section. He said that some receivers don't have that issue, which is why my 2 standard receivers are showing all channels. That was all he could tell me, couldn't elaborate as to what the difference is. I don't follow the logic at all. Can anyone think of what the issue may be?

I also wasn't aware that you can't PVR something while you watch something else. Pretty annoying - they've had that technology on VCRs for years. You'd think the PVR technology is old enough to have caught up in that regard. Oh well, I guess that is what timeshifting is for!

I actually called the two Future Shop Stores I visited this morning and they both told me I must have been in before they changed the price tickets, they are indeed $399 for a 9200.

Almost worth buying one at that price, to use as an SD Dual Tuner PVR after the switch to MPEG4 which is still a couple of years away.
 
Bell also rents/sells 2-tuner PVR's that allow you to record one channel while watching another. I never use the themes search because I've found it to never work properly for me. I have the 9200 PVR by the way.
 
ONLY HD will be MPEG4.

Otherwise Express Vu would have to change ALL receivers, SD & HD......
 
Nimiq 1 is the promo on all Future Shop or only certain retaillers? Is the promo for new clients only or everybody could get it? I got a friend who would be happy to know that...he wants a 9200 but thinks that 600$ is too expensive. His birthday is comming soon and wife plans to buy it
 
You might want Expressvu to (I think the term is) re hit your receiver. That might give you any information missing.
 
You can create a "favorite list" which woud let you browse only through the channels you actually watch.

Press MENU, then 4. Press the left key and go to list 1. Press select (you will see a yellow checkmark next to it. Press the right arrow key and go to Modify list, then press select. Press the right arrowkey to be in the channel sectio and press check on each channel you wat as part of you list. Once completed go to save, and you're done!
 
Future Shop policy is to price match. New accounts with contract. Reg price is $549. $524 if you order online .
 
I find the easiest way to trim the EPG is to lockout the channels I don't ever care about and "hide locked" channels. I leave the EPG set to "All Sub" and it gives me only the channels I want. It is handy as it will still include any new channels that may get added for whatever reason too.

The reason why you can't watch a channel live and PVR another channel is because the PVR you have is single tuner. VCRs could tune multiple or all channels. Digital technology (of any kind) works differently.

A dual tuner PVR will actually allow you to record or watch 2 different satellite channels at the same time and if you add OTA as well, then you can increase that to 3.
 
Ex-Agent, the 9200 shows at $399 on Best Buy's website... and from there you can check store stock and then tell your friend to go to one of those stores or head to Future Shop for a price match (which they will do as long as you can show store stock in the same general area (i.e. any of the Montreal Best Buy locations)

Price matching is fun because they knock off an additional 10% of the differerence, so Future Shop's $549 would go down $150 + $15 -> $384 + tax.

The favourites list was what I figured my option would be. When I set up a favourites list, does that only apply to the guide or does it apply to the themes as well?

Can you rent the dual tuners or do you have to buy? So with the dual tuner, I'd be able to record one show while watching/flipping around on other channels? What is OTA?
 
The only dual Tuner PVR currently available is the 9200, it is $599 or $20 per month.

It actually has 3 Tuners, 2 for satellite and one OTA (Over The Air), so in theory you can be recording 2 shows whilst watching a 3rd live one.
 
no ! like expressvu who advertise online reg price $599 and at stores and flyer's reg price $549 They will try to get more till their confronted by the customer..
 
On CRTC site they say that every povider must switch to HD by august 2011 , so it would mean that 9200 PVR will be good for only 4 years , but then BEV will propably have to replace receivers for new once free of charge.
 
Well , first they talk about HD then digital , my understanding is that almost everything is already digital , so they must mean HD , I guess we will have to wait and see.
