I think most cable co's still have a substantial analogue customer base
I did a quick search, and all I could find was the analogue to digital switch date of 2011, so if thats the case, all of those pesky 9200's may still live

BEVFAN don't know where you saw that promo...just went on their internet site and 9200 is advertised at 549.99$

Yes. It is analog vs digital.

There is NO requirement or mandate to switch to or provide HD.

bev fan is CORRECT, I just went to 2 different Future Shops this AM and saw the 9200 @ $549 and the 6100 @ $149.

They are pretty good prices for the current HD receivers.

Nimiq 1, BEVFAN was saying tha the 9200 were 399$...I was the one saying that they were 549$. It's only 50$ less than he current prce, so not that much...

Just where on earth do you get your information......

You my Friend are a troll of the highest order.

Do you REALLY expect Express Vu to exchange some 4 or 5 Million receivers.....

Get real.

Please only post facts on this subject from now on, or just stay home and watch Globecast.

Express Vu are ONLY moving HD to MPEG4, eventually......

It is NOT the end of the world.

The SKY is NOT falling.......

It is on page 22 of Best Buy flyer , Future Shop will sell for same price. I am not sure if it is for new customers only.I would love to buy it , but I think I should wait for new receivers.

You must know an insider Maxwedge, that is top secret and even I promised not to reveal this stunning fact......

I would never say anything as stupid as for "ever" because I will not be able to prove such a thing.

But if you are asking if they will broadcast MPEG2 & MPEG4 simultaneously, then I can say yes, for a good few years to come, they will indeed.

I would even go as far as to say for at least the next 10 years, maybe even longer.

Why, what do you think they will do.

The existing SD channels will likely stay MPEG2 for a long time. It's just too expensive to change them. The HD channels will likely be converted to MPEG4 over the next year or two.

I Agree on MPEG 2 sticking around for quite a while yet - Waaaaaay too many SD rigs out there to change out. Way too many people still watching SD only. Way too many SD channels compared to HD. Look, they have not even figured out a new Nagara 2.01a-r2-1/3 to stop Captain Hook and the gang - A much bigger problem to the Men in Blue. Am I typing or thinking out loud again?
