Best/Worst James Bond Movie

Forgive me, but who the hell's interested in movies that leave legacies? I'm not. Leave that to the art house. I like the Bond movies PRECISELY because they're superficial fun.

Ian Fleming insisted he wrote for readers in trains, planes, and beRAB. I can live with that.

'On Her Majesty's Secret Service' is my favourite Bond film of all time. Great story, great locations, great music, great girls and great villians!

'Moonraker' is the worst! A rehab of 'The Spy Who Loved Me' which was in turn a rehab of 'You Only Live Twice'!

I find it interesting that OHMSS seems to be either loved or hated.

Those who rate it as their worst film, is this simply down to the George Lazonby factor? Certainly there are many far, far worse films as a whole in the Bond back catalogue.

This coming from somebody who watches "Big Brother" and "Hollyoaks" and even more pitiful, actually "enjoys" them?

Two of the biggest pieces of crap to ever appear on British television. I speak the truth.

Best
From Russia With Love

Worst
Die Another Day

I can't really understand it either. One detractor told me that it was because it was in a 'different style' to the others. Some people obviously have an odd idea that the tone of Bond films are always the same. Try comparing Licence to Kill to Moonraker for instance. Bond girl-check, Bond baddie-check, Bond henchman - check. But completely different styles.

This may be a bit harsh, but I think OHMSS separates the men from the boys (or something similar). To appreciate Bond properly, one really has to read Fleming. The film version of OHMSS is the closest to the original source novel (even closer than From Russia With Love); to my mind, that make OHMSS the best.

But then there are people - even on official websites - who call themselves Bond fans, but who've never read a Fleming book.

As for Lazenby; I think his performance was shamefully underrated. And there are several myths surrounding him, the most damaging being that he was sacked because he was no good. Not true; he resigned and turned down the seven picture contract the producers offered him.

It's difficult to judge George Lazenby's performance as he appears to have been dubbed by George Baker for most of the film. This is a rather smart way to avoid any acting deficiencies I suppose.

George Baker only dubbed Lazenby in the scenes when Bond was impersonating Sir Hilary Bray; so I think to claim that's for "most of the film" is overstating the case.

But I take your point; it's my least favourite aspect of an otherwise near-flawless movie.

i cant see why A view to a kill is hated by so many people, o.k roger moore was old but apart from that it had some good things about it.

On her majestys secret service is a fantastic film,it would of been better without Lazenby maybe with Sean connery. it would of probably been one of the or the best bond film if sean would of done it. OHMSS had one of the best soundtracks, but Diana Rigg was the main thing that was the best in this film, the black outfit she wore when she was held in Piz Gloria with the Fur around the hood was perfect.

And also the setting was fantastic too, when bond is escaping from security and Irma bunt in that village it is a great scene.

Best; The Spy Who Loved Me

Worst; Octopussy

Interesting range of choices here, there seems to be a Bond film for everyone. I wonder how many of these are influenced by being first film seen etc. Can't agree with OHMSS being diabolical though, if Connery was in it that would have been the best ever and the franchise could have ended there.
