Best facial expressions you've seen in animation (56k warning)

There are many to go through, but one that always got me was the episode of The Simpsons where Homer is putting Bart to bed and he's like, "Why, you could wake up dead tomorrow." Then he just stares at him with this blank expression for like two seconds and then says, "well, good night." That makes me laugh so hard everytime I see it.

All the faces in the Spongebob movie. It's like. You just have to see to understand why they're so great.

I've also liked the occasional face when Mac has a big smile on his face in Foster's. Like the recent episode with the race home from the arcade, Mac just looked so overly insanely happy. You don't see him like that very often.

OH!! And the American Dad episode "Joint Custody" when Stan and Roger are high and Stan is in that 7/11-type store and Stan just stares at the snacks with squinty eyes for a good 7 seconds. It's just so funny to watch him watch those snacks AND I DON'T KNOW WHY.

Going along with the "Homer's blank stares" thing, here's an all-time favorite Homer expression of mine, from "The Itchy & Scratchy Movie":

Homer clearly doesn't care about anything right now. :p

Yeah, that one's definitely hilarious. For me, when I saw that scene, the hilarity wasn't just in the expression itself, but the way he kept going back to that exact same face whenever he wasn't speaking.

And I also agree that many of the faces in this thread are pretty generic cartoon faces, either for anime, Western animation, etc.

That faux Beavis and Butthead look on Spongebob's face when "Mr." Plankton tells him that he puts on too much sauce on the Krabby Patties in the episode, "The Algae is Always Greener." Overall, Spongebob has some really funny ones, but that one's my favorite.

The expression the Drawn Together characters make when they don't know what something is in which their jaw gets bigger and drops down and drool goes out between their two bottom teeth. It's much like that of a donkey.

Also from Drawn together, the time they were all staring at the phone (when they made a suicide hotline) and making these really weird faces while mimicking the sound of the phone ringing (I believe someone said it was a parody of something the Muppets did).

This one always gets me from Eek. Basically it's Sharky just looking all calm and relaxed, and it's basically a precursor to him mauling Eek.

You just have to wonder what Tex Avery was smoking when he actually conceived how that would look in his mind.

In The Road to El Dorado, Chel states that "My only wish is to serve the gods."

Then she gives Tulio and Miguel this brilliant pleading look, like she's saying "Come on. Help me out here."

Shame on me for not mentioning it earlier.

I love (LOVE) the look on Spongebob's face in "Just One Bite" when he finally figures out Squidward is addicted to krabby patties.

One of my favorite Ren and Stimpy facial expressions is from "Man's Best Friend" when Ren snaps at George Liquor and says "Maybe I would take the car, but the goldfish took it!" Hilarious.

You know...a list thread is a list thread, even if you use pictures. No explanations at all for those? Because I don't see what's so amazing about most of them, especially those birds. a little insight to your choices would be nice.

I wouldn't say that this is the best, but it certainly has a lot of expression.

You kinda have to understand the story to get it but it certainly gives off an aura. (It's from Narutaru, btw)

I'm not seeing anything here other than a completely blank stare. I really think some of the people who keep using manga/anime for examples in this thread are trying too hard. If you need to know an entire story behind it to actually "get" it, then it probably isn't a very good facial expression. The blank Homer one works because it's actually interesting on it's own but the above example barely qualifies as any expression at all.
