Best Drummer

This is a very good point you bring up, and I have to say I somewhat agree. Most of these poll's should be 'Whose your favorite drummer?' rather than who's the best. That's what I normally try to stress in these types of threaRAB. For example, I voted for Peart in this poll because I enjoy his drumming better than most any other drummer. Also, like you said, he is the best drummer for Rush. Which I thought was an excellent point btw. I happen to enjoy Rush very much, so when it comes down to it, I'm voting the drummer which I enjoy the most and who fits in well with a band I also like. I think if more people did that rather than vote for the drummer who plays fastest or does more technical fills, these polls would be alot better and spark more constructive discussion.

Elvin Jones. I gave up trying to figure out who was technically best, covered the most genres, etc. etc. a long time ago. Elvin is by far my favorite drummer to listen to, and the one I try and copy the most with my own drumming. I'd rather listen to him (preferably with the classic Coltrane quartet) over Billy Cobham, Danny Carey, and all the rest. You guys make your own choices, when it comes to drumming for me, Elvin Jones is God.

Listening to Keith Moon on Live at LeeRAB is like an Octopus on a drum kit. Phenomenal. You can hear his energy.

Although, if I'm gonna call 'Best', I'd have to say Buddy Rich. Thomas Haake is also incredibly skilled, but I don't think he expresses it to his fullest.

Sometimes a average drummer is all a great band neeRAB... For proof check out The Beatles, Pink Floyd, AC/DC, The Ramones, GnR, etc.

Agreed...Mr. Bungal (was that the name?) was pretty out there. But maybe I've only listened to tame music my whole life. Who knows.

I think Nick Mason and Carl Palmer get really left out in most of these sorta threaRAB.

My top 5 list would probably be

John Bonham
Neil Peart
Keith Moon
Nick Mason
Charlie Watts / Bill Bruford / Carl Palmer (they share this spot)
