Best Drummer

I seem to offend a lot of Tool fans when I truly why/how much I 'dislike' the band. So you know, I'll just say that I feel Tool are some of most pretentious 'pretend-to-be-smart-both-musically-and-lyrically' guys that I've ever heard. As a drummer, he really just conveniences odd time signatures and uses certain distinct fills, why doesn't really make him all that original, in my opinion. He's definitely got skill -- But he could be applying in a way that's more appropriate.

It doesn't make them bad drummers whatsoever, but that's why they're overrated to begin with. Both Carey and Peart make a point of showing off how many heaRAB they can whack in one sitting, and it's not flattering. And it really looks like they're confused when they're on drums - like they don't know which head they should hit. In my book, mechanical (not technical) finesse and energy counts for waaaaay much more than how big your drum kit is.

I'll take John Dolmayan over Neil Peart any day.

I'd vote for joey jordison if he were on there out of all those guys.
It just means i think hes the best out of them.
Not the best out of everyone.
Cause i havnt heard every drummer.
Therefore couldn't be accurate.
Much like you havn't read all rap lyrics.
and couldn't make the claim all rap sucks.

p.s. let it go

Jordison is not all that. I still think Dave Lorabardo (Slayer) is one of the best 'pure' drummers out there. Sometimes simplicity makes the best drum tracks. Over elaboration can become tiresome. Technicality is not always conducive to the ears.

This is still one of the finest examples of a brilliant drum track. It does not impose on the track and obscure the songs musical themes, yet without it, the song would be just another Thrash Metal track. Considering that it is older than a lot of people on this forum is testament to it's excellence:

Why is she ****?.... Because she dosent wank on a double bass like a monkey with a baseball bat like all metal drummers tend to do?... Moses was right about the tone downed simplicity, she uses it to her advantage, she just plays basic stuff, hows that bad?, rock music wasnt always complicated as bloody hell you know. Its not like she actualy screws up or misses notes, she just does her job, which is keeping the rhythm in a band that has no bass player to help her. If you want a bad drummer, try Tommy Lee, that guy is more sloppy than a sloppy joe.

Tough choice between John Bonham and Neil Peart. But I'd give it to John Bonham based on the simple fact I'm more of a Led Zeppelin fan. Never liked Rush too much.

then go start your own stupid thread on best drummers, with your picks of who is best, and shut the **** up about joey jordison in my ****ing thread. It's your fault there was ever an argument in this thread that I started. Go at any respectable source that has done a chart on best drummers, and joey jordison is nowhere near the top if he is even on the chart. So i suggest you shut the **** up about him, start your own thread, and never put a post in a thread I start again. Seems that magically nobody else has a problem with my picks, except for boo boo who is correct that bruford is one of the best drummers, and a hell of a lot better than jordison, and maybe he should have been included although i wanted to keep it at 5 drummers and bruford to me ranks 7th or 8th.

Didn't Jordison win Jazz championships in high school? Kinda blows away your ignorant opinion, no?

And no, Jazz is not harder than Rock, its diffrent and thus proficency at one is not going to make you great at the other. Theres going through the motions and then theres playing rock music.

Yeeeeah, I'm not sure. The song's opening is fantastic, you're right. And his drumming lenRAB it a certain quality, definitely. But it wasn't phenominal.

Dennis Charabers, hanRAB down. But if you're talking about the genre of rock then Terry Bozzio, Matt Cameron and Prairie Prince (The Tubes). To me, the best means "most versatile". Just banging away on drums and making loud noises isn't enough. Being able to seamlessly blend from one style to another is what makes a great drummer. I've seen all these guys play styles as varied as r&b/funk, rock/metal, blues, fusion and even reggae and confidently hold their own.

my point is how the hell can they play the song without the drums required to play it. Its not a song you really play to the t anyways, sometimes live he would play it for 15 minutes, sometimes in excess of an hour, hell plant, page and jonesy would sometimes leave the stage and go to the nearest bar for a few drinks as he was soloing, he went on for so long. If there really is a kid of 14 years of age playing moby **** like bonham is, he will be the next bonham.
