Best Drummer

Exactly.

Nick Mason for example is one of my favorite drummers, technically he's not great at all, my brother could play anything he can, however he's the best drummer Pink Floyd could ever have... Imagine if Neil Peart did the drum intro to Time instead, he would have made it much more technical, it would have sounded so overblown, it would throw the subtle magic of that song off center and ruin everything, it wouldn't be Pink Floyd.

i heard somewhere that when asked if ringo starr was the greatest rock drummer ever, john lennon replied "He isn't even the best drummer in the beatles!"

but thats just what i heard. no foundation for it at all

i reckon that there are a lot other great drummers than up there like travis smith and barker are both great drummers and of course tommy lee is pretty good and the pearl jam drummer
the guy from dragonforce kicks ass on the drums and i agree that alex van halen is a great drummer but there are too many classic drummers to mention lol

Thats why Joey Jordinson got such a good rap even though the band around him couldn't hold their own. His Jazz drumming when he was younger made him pretty bloody good.

I'm voting Neil Peart over Keith Moon, though I prefer the Who to Rush by a wide margin. As far as who's the best, on or off the list, I'm not even remotely qualified to try an answer.

Well, out of the listed drummers I was torn between Bonham and Peart. I went with Peart and it looks like most agree. I love the who, but Moon as one of the best drummers of all time?! Certainly he was entertaining, and extremely famous for his antics on stage, but one of the worlRAB best at his craft? No sir (IMO) :)

yes thrash drumming in 4/4 time......
its really akin to tapping and shredding on a guitar...looks impressive, sounRAB impressive...really not that hard.
