Best brand/model car stereo out at the moment?

Hey all,

I'm wanting to purchase a new car stereo for my rally project car, a 1996 Subaru Impreza Brighton (Coupe). My career is music and sound is important.
I am wanting to know what is the better brand/model stereo deck out at the moment? I would like to stick with either Pioneer or Alpine from my knowledge, since I am under the assumption those are the two better brands. I will be using a MP3 player also of course.

My price range for the deck is probably going to be $80-$150, as I am also buying speakers so I'm trying to divide my budget and get speakers also (on a college student budget).

P.S. I know nothing about car stereo/speakers, I am really in the dark in this area.
 
Alpine CDA-9887 is a better deck because it has full ipod interface..
also if you want a boom dont go with type s speakers go with the type r speakers hands down will blow away any speaker on the market. i have 4 alpine speakers type Rs nd 1 alpine type x 12 inch sub and a pdx1.1000 also a pdx4.100 amp and to make that stuff yell i have a ida-x101 deck. i can literally be heard from half a mile away with my volume at 35% believe me alpine makes the best everything when it comes to car audio. the have amazing amounts of clarity..you will not have any regrets
