Ex agent thanks for the reply very informative. I agree with you on the Legacy package why do we still have it and I believe it is grandfathered because of some contract.
I always had two receivers and I when I traded my 6000 in recentlty they attempted to charge me for an extra receiver and I was able to get that rolled back since I had two receiver for about 4 years at no extra charge quite frankly that what ticks me off about Bell they are always making new rules that costs the customer more money one way or an other.
No I did not get a notice from Bell about the change and quite frankly I would not be surprised if they take something else away or add an other charge in an effort to get me off the legacy package.

They have come along way since I commenced service in 2001 at $9.95 a month for the same programing that I currently have and in to days time I am now paying $44.00 with taxes in, and based on a percentange that is a whopping increase over the years
 
I watch HD channels on my SDTV connected to my 9242 all the time. (It downconverts). I have no use for SD either.

I told Bell to stuff their sports channels. I really only wanted TSNHD and would have paid $5 to get it but $13 for one channel I really want (SD+HD theme) ? Fuggedaboudit !

Anyone called and received NG-HD and/or Showcase-HD back that was Grandfathered under the old $10 HD plan?
 
I'm actually hoping...ok maybe dreaming...that Bell-TV will offer an HD-Only package once (if) the switch to MPEG-4 (ever) happens...much like the 100% HD package "Turbo-HD" that DISH Network currently offers in the good ole US of A. :cool:
 
There is absolutely nothing Bell sells for $17 on the invoice related to TV. This is a great example of misleading the consumer. It might be great marketing to start the discussion, but it isn't factual.

To be clear: no customer is paying "$17/mth" for HD TV from Bell.

If you only want to TV, and you only want an HD receiver for one TV, and you don't want any "analog specialty channels" like MuchMusic, TSN, CNN, etc., your regular rate on the invoice is $47 on a two year contract. They may offer a $5 or $10/mth discount in year one.
 
Regarding the 6 month free HD promo...does that include HBO/movie channel HD if I do NOT subscribe to the movies package?

I'm currently on the old programming and I am receiving free HBO HD and Movie CHannel HD (I have movies east package). Are these HD channels there for good, or are they in free preview mode that will disappear sometime soon? If they are in free preview, I will switch to the newest programming in order to get golf HD. But if they are there for good, I will stick with the old legacy programming.
 
I've dealt with Telus for over 30 years and can't remember one time I've ever got a break or a good deal on anything. They have been reliable for me though and any competition is good.
 
HD with Bell starts with $32 - includes 17 Free HD channels - and all your locals - basic channels such as CTV, Global, NBC, FOX, ABC, CBC, etc. Many time shift features of all the locals...etc. The HD includes all the networks above US and Canadian.

To sub to the HD pack, you can do so by choosing 4 of the 5 HD theme packs. In order to subscribe to this - you may take Sports 1 in Standard def for $8 which acts as a pre condition of both Sports and More Sports HD.

Total cost: Digital Standard ($32) + Free HD (18 HD channels) + $8 Sports 1 Theme +$10 for your HD Pack = $50 plus tax. There is no pre condition for National Geo and Showcase. There is for TSN and RSN HD - which sports 1 covers off.

For new customers, there is $10 credit available if you are renting -directly from Bell.ca and or 50% of a receiver if you choose to purchase. if you bundle services with Bell, there is an addition of $5 per service.

So how does the price get to $17 = $32 - $10 offer - 5 Bell Bundle = $17 for a year plus included is the 17-18 Free HD channels.... you will see $17 plus $3 SAF for $20 total for 12 months....

Glenn - My experience is very similar to yours - have Showcase in SD, lost it. Have A&E and Discovery in SD, didn't lose them.

I understand the "free preview" part, but I would suggest to all that the ideal should be that there should essentially be a more direct synchronization between how the SD Theme packs are arranged to how the HD ones should be. Don't know how would that look, but I don't think ANYONE who has HD would choose to watch the SD version if the HD version was available (and by this logic, SHOULD be available if you sub to the SD version through one of your Theme choices?)
 
The only way to reduce you bill without reducing your content is to let them know. "I'm feeling ripped off ".
 
If you want those HD channels, switching from the Legacy HD pack, to the new HD Theme packs is the only way to get them. Did you really think Bell was going to give you every new HD channel that comes along for $10 a month, forever?

There's no linkage between these two HD channels and their SD counterparts so you are not entitled to them automatically when you take the SD services. Show HD and NG HD were in free preview for the past year. Before that they weren't offered by Bell. The length of the previews for Show HD and NG HD has been the source of much subscriber confusion. Bell has hopefully learned a lesson about previews from this experience namely that if you keep a preview going too long it becomes a viewing habit.
 
Question about programming. I'm opening a new account and taking the Digital Extra package which includes 7 digital theme packs. Question is does the 7 theme packs include HD theme packs and digital theme packs together ? So I could order 2 HD packs and 5 digital ? It doesn't clairify on the website. Thanks.
 
I want to switch from the $10 HD plan to the new theme plan so I can get TLC HD back, it looks like the cost will be the same - If I make this switch online via the website is it going to lock me into a contract term or anything?
 
By upgrading you may not save any money but you will have more channels and more freedom to change your package.

on bell tv the wireline winback discount is $15/mo for 12 months and you could get an addtional $5/mo off for at least 12 (possibly 24, let me go to work and review Infozone) for with the rental of a HDPVR, the extra $5/mo discount ends 30Jun09.
 
Exactly. They have to pay for a $300M satellite somehow. I would rather pay a little more and improve the service. 8PSK will be the first step and MPEG4 will be the next.
