Bell TV: Price increase again?

Is that a special for new customers? If so, Sympatico offers similar discounts, as do most ISP's for new customers....

I'm guessing the the increase may have something to do with the new satellite that was launched, and the card swap (didn't we just have one of these a year or two ago?)

After telling me that my bill would be going up by $2.00 guess what it went up $4.00. Digital Standard went up by $1.00 and 5 theme packs have gone up by $3.00. How do they get away with this. I have cut my package down to the bare minimum. I probably only watch 20% of the channels 80% of the time. I don't know what else to cut except probably the west coast feeds but that will only save me a $1.00.

Got my bill yesterday saying mine was going up $3.

But what caught my eye was the fact my 40% discount was gone! Got on the
phone with Bell....young guy brings up my account....he says I'm correct as he
sees the discount listed....puts me on hold for 3-4 minutes and comes back
saying to pay exactly what I paid last month. Young guy seemed very
knowledgeable and...forgive me here....spoke perfect English.

I'd say. $3 for the digital standard and now $5 more for 6 themes, movies and the HD "value" package. All of this after I was convinced I had to switch from the legacy to the newer package so that I can be "less costly" to the system... :o

Just another shining example of how Bell treats its longtime subs...

I spoke with a CSR, and was told that all Genesis packages will be increasing. Legacy packages were the ones before, then Genesis, and I don't have a clue what the next generation of packages will be called... My bill is going up a whopping $2/month!!!
I was wondering if anyone knows of any cable/satellite company that has price decreases?

Have a read in the Shaw forum, also check out their HDPVR before you hop over that fence... The grass is actually brown on the other side according to some...

oh its so brown like a month of no rain and +30 sunshine.. haha

you know.. when you sign up for a bev, you choses 12 or 24 month contract, in which case no price increase can occur. correct? thats what a contract usually consists of.
Can a existing customer call bell and ask to go for a contract??

I subscribe to time shifting and have an HD receiver. I get the time shifted HD networks at no extra cost. If you use the online tool you will see that when regular time shifting is selected, hd timeshifting shows up at no extra cost.

We should all go to Rogers, as they don't have increases...
Maybe when the teachers pension coughes up the $1, 000, 000, 000 for the sale not going through we wll all get discounts, and free receivers!

Can you elaborate on that?
What's the difference between the Nimiq5 and Nimiq4 (the one on 82 now)?
What is this suppose to mean?
My understanding is Bell hasn't switched neither to MPEG-4 not to 8PSK yet.
Hence, no more efficient bandwidth usage and/or better encoding.

I was looking through my past bills for something else and came across an ExpressVu bill from early 2005. I just had digital standard for $25. In early 2008 it was up to $34 ($31 + $3 service fee). $9 increase in 3 years!? And now another. Maybe some channels were added, can't recall....I can't blame anyone for leaving, this is just abusive. BTW, my landline went up less than $1 in the same period.

It would appear that Superagent is being spoonfed the daily blurb from the mothership. Agents are not encouraged to have there own opinions or idea but to merely tow the corporate line and reply from the prepared scripts.

This is very obvious from the few posts by this person.

A typical Agent has NO understanding of the differences between MPEG2 & MPEG4 and the bandwidth requirements or savings by changing to the later....They just repeat what they are told, which is what they are paid to do.

Q it is a bit confusing, as you say your bill has increased $20, but you have changed programming, and added channels, so one would expect there to be a price change. When you went from 7 to 6 theme packs, how many channels did you "lose"?
And the $1.99 extra you were charged, did you then receive any HD channels that you didn't receive before?
EVERY provider has increased their rates if you look back at your bill, and I agree that the timing might not be the greatest given the current state of the economy, but is there ever a good time for a price increase?

You can switch to Rogers, if you live in their territory....Oops, they have increased their prices too...

Apparently contracts don't matter because i'm still in one until April and on my ebill theres a nice notice saying that i'll have a price increase of $2 starting in January. Now $2 isn't a big deal but how do you sign up for a 1 year commitment and they change the price before that commitment is up?

It's not my fault that they keep changing portions of their programming packages every 3 months. They should at least honour the contract a person signs other wise whats stopping me from cancelling my contract and telling them i refuse to pay the cancellation fee's because they're breaking the contract on thier end?

I'm still puzzled about how this increase breaks down. I'm taking the following:
1. One 4100 receiver (rent for $3.00)
2. Digital Standard without US time shifting ($31)
3. 6 SD Themes (5 for $20 + $5 for the sixth theme)
4. Legacy $10 HD package
5. 9200 receiver (no charge. I bought it)

My increase in Jan. will be $2.00 according to my bill. What are they doing? Adding $1.00 to Digital Standard and $1.00 to HD Legacy? Since they aren't touching the SD themes and I doubt that the 4100 receiver rental is increasing I can't see any other explanation. I'm just at the two year mark as Bell customer by the way.

It really would have been nice if Bell had shown how the increase is worked out.

Too late rogers have come out with a new price list. Hay wait a minute it says what your paying for.
