Bell TV: Price increase again?

My 2 year contract just ended in December and my bill went up by $5. The December bill also states I will have a $4 increase in January.

That will bring my EV bill w/ basic HD (including 9200) to well over $100 a month... throw in basic phone and internet and we are now talking $240 a month. Sounds a little steep to me, it's time to visit Rogers again.

I just opened my Bell bill today and read the fine print notifying me that my package is going up $4.00 in January. I just removed a theme package 2 months ago to try and trim my bill back, and now this. I did a slow boil when they introduced a Digital Service charge of $3.00 awhile back, and now they have the nerve to do this. At least when my Internet service provider would raise their rates, they would send a separate mailing of the notification, and give reasons to justify the increase. Not Bell. They just print a coldly worded message to say there is a price increase. Bell TV is now history in my books. This is the nail in the coffin. I will be moving back to Videotron as soon as I can get a package chosen, and I am not going to be interested whatsoever in whatever the Bell retention department will be offering.

What happens when Videotron raises their rates?
Isn't it a bit of a waste of money, and trees to send a seperate letter for the price increase, instead of adding it to the bottom of your bill?

I heard Bell is mulling over a pay what you pull program. They figure that way they can eliminate having to give a firm price on anything. :)

I'm not sure if that would have anything to do with it. I have 3 active recievers and 1 currently not hooked up but updated with the new card to make 4 and only $2 increase. From the sounds of it everybody is getting some sort of increase, likly related to the current package they have.

Anybody on the current offered package with the new themed HD channels have any notice of an increase?

Wasn't Nimiq 4 launched to replace the malfunctioning unit that was in its place? Shouldn't part of that been the manufacturer of the equip putting up some of the cost to fix the original problem? Not sure where the original sat came from, i generally don't keep up with the specifics of it so i could be way off base there.

Went 3 years without a price increase, got 1, upgraded to a new package because i was on a legacy package, 3 months later got another price increase because the one i just upgraded to got changed. Upgraded to this current one in april and now a price increase again.

Seems like bad timing to me for increases concidering the current ecomomic situation going on. That and the huge profits others like Roger's and Shaw are posting with similar rate plans. Looks to me that they should be cutting from the top at bell for not being able to turn a profit and saving the little guy who pays for those huge bonus' for poor business practice. /shrug

Im on the 83$ extra Value Pack with 11 themes instead of the 6 it comes with Movie Central + Super Channel 5 HD themes and Dish Care and my bill is going up by 2$ a month in Jan.

Why not go to Rogers, they allow a la carte programming choices...
I think Starchoice does too, as with Cogeco, Shaw, Videotron....
Seeing as Bell is the last provider to offer a la carte programming, I think they will start to feel the pinch from the mass exodus of angry customers, who deserve more choice, and better value for their $$$.
I think there may be a bit of a "i hate big bad Bell" going on here...

My bad, I thought everyone but Bell had a la carte programming choices?

Any suggestions for a contact email to complain about their Indian CS? I'm in the IT industry myself and most of our first-line helpdesk has moved to Mumbai and they're truly horrible, but come across as rocket scientists in comparison to whoever Bell's dredged up.

Over a week of back and forth emails with 6 different people all thanking me for using Bell customer “service” and promising to “do the needful”, yet my address still looks like it was typed in by monkeys with myopia.

When Bell came out recently and changed advertising agencies, the beavers were sent packing. They have now decided to re market themselves. Someone must have also decided that Bell ExpressVu doesn't sounds as sexy as Bell TV. We are now all paying the price for their new logos and marketing.

It's way more sneaky to slip it somewhere they hope you won't notice, and by the time you realize it it's too late.

That does seem steep. My TV is only $50/month and includes all the usual channels but no movies. Add in my home phone and 7 Gb/s high speed DSL and my monthly bill for Ma Bell comes in at around $130.

I believe it has to do with the programming. I have a bigger package, but only saw a $2 increase, and I have heard a few with smaller/medium packages seeing $3/$4 increases.

Yes I did get the Digital Fee increase. It happened last Jan. Since then the price each month has stayed the same. I have of course made no changes in my programming in 2008.

With Bell you can save a lot more than with Rogers. I pay a lot less for my tv , internet or phone service than what Rogers advertise. I just laugh when I get weekly flyer from Rogers. I have to say that I had been with Rogers so I had seen their cat in the bag lol.

Yes, "abusive" is of course an exaggeration. I like my Bell TV, I actually think its a good service, I've had digital cable and hated it, and most of my in-laws have *choice which I also dislike. It just seems that of all my monthly bills, this is the only one that increases at such a rate. I don't like the increase but I suppose somebody has to pay for new satellites and smart cards.

Don't be annoyed with the poor CSR. Either he hasn't yet been briefed or he has been ordered not to explain it until the new pricing structure is formally announced (maybe on Dec. 1?). I suspect the latter which is also why our price increase notices have been so terse.

Just to stir the pot could this be the beginning of Bell offering geographic pricing? I'm in the Maritimes. What about the rest of you who are seeing only $2 increases?

Bell has price increases about once a year, as do all the other providers. I don't like it, but it shouldn't come as a surprise.

So reading that new programming guide it sounds as though its going to be $95 for the digital max package + another $10 for 4 HD themes because the themes listed in the package state that they're Digital Themes not HD Themes so really you're now going to jump to $105 or $110 depending on how many HD themes you want.

Add rental's on top of that and you're going to be $130 for something ppl are paying about $95 for now.. Not just a little increase.

That or a new satellite, Nimiq 4, (not to mention Nimiq 5 next year), or a new encryption system with all those smartcards to replace. Employees generally want a raise each year too.
