I was checking on my Bell Bill and programming and I spoke to a CSA and he informed that it is going to finally happen, that the Legacy package is to end in approximately one month. Present customers are to receive a letter about the change and will be migrated into the Geneisis package with an increase in montly billing and less channels.

The agent told me that he had heard this for the past year but it is finally going to happen and they will no longer carry the computer programming for the Legacy package.
The CSA had no idea if Bell was going to offer us any incentives or not. Apparently there are only 7% of their customers on that package.
When I asked about the grandfathering of the Leagacy package he could not answer what the policy was in regards to that.

Has anyone else come across this information, received a Bell letter or this just an other rumour?

I've been a Bell subscriber almost from day one .I pay $10 for my HD channels, 8 theme packs including Premium movies i pay $54, my digital standard costs me $34. what do you think?

Sucks if that's true.

But one would hope you could call retentions and get a very similar package/deal.

Otherwise, they are changing your package, and charging you more for less, so I'd say bye-bye on principal.

Well look at it this way, nothing lasts forever. And considering all the channels they have added over the years since the very beginning, do you really think a $19 increase is that much of an increase or unjustified in any way? Especially given the fact that most channels also have higher subscription fees associated with them. I'd say your pretty lucky if you've only been paying $54/mo for tv and now only getting your first rate increase after all these years. Most other people out there have been dealing with increase after increase after increase, so really you have nothing to complain about!!!

Tnx everyone I think we'll wait until Bell says we absolutly have to change. Please post if anyone gets new info.

jft is "Legacy" the real name of a pkg or do you mean all legacy pkgs? we have a really old pkg but we like it. I haven't heard of geneisis.

Destination is a Legacy theme pack that's split up between different packages. You can't match it up with just one theme in the newer package.

I know it has the Travel channel, plus a few others in the same vein as National Geographic (I think). Any agent should be able to look up the Legacy brochure on their system and tell you what's in Destination.

The customer could be paying that low, but that would be before any other fees. And of course, now it's $5 more.

Loyalty costs them.

I haven't been paying $54 for the last 10 yrs as they have increased it by $10 over the last two years as they had extra administrative costs due to the legacy plan

$19 / month ($228 / year) is more than I'm willing to consider. I'll spend $50 on a decent HD Antennae and just stream for free via the net the channels I can't get locally. I have no arguments paying $50 / month anything more IMO is crazy. I don't care for HD and that is all Bell keeps pitching to me, the free HD channels.

I think the major players in Canada see the writing on the wall that satelite and coax or old school technology and they are going to be up the creek without a paddle very shortly once more people pick up on free tv online. They are just going to over charge everyone now to make up the short falls down the road until they can figure out how to get in on the action.

Something that I just don't understand is all the major networks offer the shows for free online and yet they went to court trying to get extra money from places like bell for the use of their networks. Strange. Maybe I just misunderstood the whole case? Why pay bell to pay CTV, Global etc, when you can watch everything with fewer commercials online? It's nice watching a 60min show in 45min

For me, I stream everything from my laptop to my 52" tv and surround sound. The satelite is more of a convenience factor for my wife and kids.

Not sure why they would be opposed to it if Bell TV pays them a fair price.

Why would Speed care who they are bundled with if they are making a good profit?

If your bill says you have "Digital Standard", then you're NOT on legacy programming.

I'm sure If you call when or if they end the package they will offer you some other sort of retention policy to keep you happily with them while they simplify. They have in the past.

Forgot to add the second part on my previous post...

Programming rates, fees and charges are charged in
accordance with this Agreement. ExpressVu
reserves the right to impose other rates, fees and
charges or to change the amount of existing rates,
fees and charges, at any time, but we will provide
you with notice of any such change

I have been with Bell since day one the good ol'days of the 2700 and 3100. Still use my 3100. A while back the CSR indicated I was on a package called Super 7 which I will assume is legacy seeing that I never changed it, other than adding a $9.99 HD package the first day Bell offered HD.

Now to look through this forum to find what deals people are getting. Rogers has been contacting me to switch and never gave it any thought until I got the letter.

Is there a page that tracks what the common deal is Bell will offer to keep me?

Cheers!

Ex Agent,

Much as you may wish that Bell can do whatever it wants, this type of situatiuon has arisen before (Tellus's lifetime plans for one) and each time the major company has lost the legal challenge. I don't think Bell wants to go that route as it opens up a huge can of worms for them. They will continue to try and convert customers and will probably get many of them.

The original contract I signed locked in the rates in writing guarenteed by ExpressVu for as long as I was a customer in good standing. I kept that contract. Companies would love to be able to cancel contracts for no legal reason, but I will wait and see.

Was paying
~$50/month home phone & long distance
~$50/month internet
~$56/'month TV (have had all the above since ~99

They offered to reduce for 1 year
home phone by $18/month (with increased no charge Long Distance minutes)
Internet by $25/month (would no longer have unlimited download - which I dont need)
TV costs go up to $78/month (including the 20% discount they offered).

I'm looking at Shaw and Rogers for the TV, and maybe it's time for an HD antenna

Lessoned learned? I've been ripped off by Bell for phone and internet for 10+ years

Thanks for reading my rant :)

Sorry I took so long.

Destination has the following channels:
National Geographic
Discovery Civizilation
Travel
TLN
Bold
Movietime

To keep those channels, one would have to have:
News & Learning 2 - Nat Geo & Disc Civ
Lifestyle 2 - Travel
Variety 1 - TLN
Variety 2 - Bold, Movietime

The good news is that most of those channels (except for TLN) are Genesis Pick & Pay.

Pinza, do you get any guide information or do you just get to record channel xx from yy:00 to zz:00? Last time I tried this, it just sucked.

Bayguy I am not certain I undertsand your post correctly Legacy is the platform I am presently on,not the program package.
It was the original platform that was offered to customers and if you have made very few changes you are presently on that platform. A quick call to Bell will confirm your status.

The majority of the bell customers are on the geneises platform. The CSA have attempted to change my platform over the years but I have kept the same platform with the selected channels for the past 8 years and lost the occasional channel (sportsnet)because of Bell's restructure.

It was good value for the money that was the main reson I kept it. As I said in my original post this was a CSA expressing his thoughts to me. I am uncertain about the term grandfathered.
Usually that means you stay the same unless you change it, then you are liable for the current charges on the various packages that Bell offers. I am unfamiliar with the legal implications of being grandfathered I always understood it was something that they could not take away from you unless you consented.
