Bell ExpressVu Retentions?

Simply say you want to disconnect...and want to be transferred to the disconnection departement

No matter how much you spent on a monthly basis they will make you an offer

I think you should call expressvu again. The explanations you got do not make a lot of sense. Why would they want your purchased receiver to rent you one. Sound like they have to re hit your 6100. Get that working first.

Another question...is it mandatory to get one of their techs to do the install? I can do this easily and would rather do it myself to be honest. Would they just send me the hardware?

You will likely get free installation for the free rental 9242 as well. An extra RG6 from the 9242 to a second TV should be included. ;)

I was offered a 12 month free rental on a 9200, and $10.00/discount for 12 months to stay after being a customer for 9 years when I called in to 'ditch my dish'.

As of April 1st BEV would have been increasing my grandfathered Legacy package by $5.00/mo under the "Locals" portion.

If I were to come back after discontinuing my service, there would be a $50.00 reconnection charge, so the net cash savings would be $10.00 plus the value of the freebie HD PVR rental for 12 months.

After declining their offer, I received a call from another Retention Agent who asked for some specifics as to why I cancelled. When the issues were identified as nothing they could resolve, he left it alone, after making 3 good attempts to convince me otherwise.

I was offered a 9242 for $150 and one month free HD to stay. I don't want to go to Rogers, but should I take a chance and call Bell's bluff? Will they likely up the offer?

For my part i got 30% off / month for 12 months (the rest of my contract), i got an additionnal 10$ / month rebate on my one bill because i have an hd pvr and i live in quebec province and finally, they come and change my 9200 in rental for the 9242 without any fees.

I don't (think) they call it the retentions department but if you call the 1-800-SKY-DISH number and select the CANCEL SERVICE menu option, you'll get them!

I've yet to see a $750 advantage in switching to Rogers. I was offered 2 yr free rental on owned receivers but where would I be at the end of 2 years? Renting obsolete receivers? No thanks. OTOH, if EV refused to upgrade my owned receivers or charged too much, I would switch in an instant. It's even worth a switch right now if Rogers has significantly better service in the interim or Rogers receivers are significantly better and cheaper 2 years from now.

Similar customers have got the 9242 rental free for a year and 30 to 40% off programing for a year. Why would you not want a free pro install its cold out there. Rentals must be pro installed. Rogers sends me two promo flyer's a week.

i read in Bells faq's that the smart cards are and remain the property of Bell. that said I have no intention of allowing the Shaw technician to take the cards. I will simply explain to Shaw that I cannot give away something I do not own. anymore than the technician can give me the company van. Ed

You are under a 1 year contrct when you had a rental, whether free because of a retention offer or a regular rental

I was paying $110 a month for:

7 Themes and Premium Movies $46
1 HD Value Pack $10
1 HD PVR 9242 $20
1 Digital Standard $31
1 Service Fee $3

(I subsequently found out that the total cost is now $112...)

I called and said I didn't want to cancel, but that I could not pay this anymore. The rep offered me 30% off for 12 months and free rental for a year on a 9241. I declined the free rental because he said you could only use 1 TV on it. I currently have the 9242 in my living room and the 2nd feed in my kitchen. So, I am happy with the 30% discount. I also got rid of 1 theme pack (More Movies) to make my total monthly $76.40. I asked if there was anything else that could be done to reduce the cost. He must have mentioned 4-5 times that I should get rid of the HD Value Pack. I also asked him about NG HD and Showcase HD and why they were no longer there...he said he would look into it.

I have a 9242 on rental, and tried yesterday to purchase it, expecting some discount in the price given that it is used and also being replaced. One csr told me that was impossible to do at all, and another said I could purchase it, but the price is $599. So guess it will be going back. I have two other hd receivers -- 6131 & 6141 -- with external drives, so can survive without the 9242. The thing that burns me is that there is something illogical about this whole thing, but I cannot get to talk to someone in a position to deal. Probably won't leave Bell, but things like this make it very tempting to do so.

It was worth a try. BCE made a profit of C$3,332 million last year. They can clearly afford to cut me some slack. ( of course, you don't get rich by giving away money... ) Like I said, it was worth a try. I didn't sign up thinking I'd get a deal forever. I had, however, expected new and cheaper hardware by now. I can't believe that the same hardware is the same price 2 years later (and in the case of rental 4100s, more expensive :(). Being in a computer field, that's completely foreign to me.

For $150 I don't think they would be willing to put their reputation (and possibly their business license) on the line. Writing a unique firmware version just for you and downloading it to your system is a lot of work for that price :)

To me, it does not sounds like there is any correlation between signal loss and account suspension. Two completely separate functions. Hardware fails. Since your unit did not acquire signal at onther location then you know it has to be something in your receiver.

It was likely miscommunication or a simple mistake when they said they would replace your unit with a 6100, but I could be wrong. Since that model has been phased out it seems strange.

If you go for the 6141 @ $149 I believe that means it is a refurbished unit, but I haven't looked at the pricing on those lately, just want to warn you to check to be sure you understand what you are getting.

You are right about the retention offers, many seem to get a free 9242 rental for a year and possibly a subscription reduction.

Haystack - If he can't acquire and lock a signal, they can't send auth codes down to the receiver/CAM.

Just wait closer to the actual date, if they do not give you a better deal then cancel and they still have 30 days to give you a deal.... I would find it hard to beleive that they will not come through. It is all about retentions these days.

I called Bell retentions today (been a customer for nearly 10 years) as I'm being constantly bombarded with offers from Rogers and StarChoice. We have Evu/phone/DSL/cell with Bell.

The chap was very helpful. I mentioned we are receiving all these "switch offers" and what could he do for us. I received:

2 year no charge rental of a 6141 receiver plus free install (no $100 payment)
40% off our current programming charges (7 packages + HD I think)

I'm happy with that. I've found the Bell service to be pretty reliable. My support for our DSL has been amazing . Only real complaint is that Formula 1 isn't in HD yet (but that's not Bell's fault ;) )
